Good thing you kept the "Lacuna Coil is better than Nightwish" out of your statement.

That depends on which argument you are talking about.

While I may admit that Nightwish had some novelty value in the beginning, to say (as Rio did) they "rely chiefly on novelty value," well I'm sorry but I'm still calling that bullshit.

Well indeed. I really only meant to clarify what I meant by "novelty value", seeing as how my choice of words seemed to upset you a bit. Clearly, their reliance on it is much more subjective. :D

 Moron, After Forever is not anywhere close as good as Nightwish.

Seen both live, compared, Nightwish is not as good in my view. But now that you say so, I think I will change my opinion...

Actually After Forever (on Decipher) were very good.Much better than some of the old Nightwish albums.Maybe not 10 times better but still...
It's one of my fav. gothic metal acts, at least up to Decipher.Invisible Circles was much weaker.Waiting for Reimagine to come out. :D

it is good, but Nightwish is much better especially on vocals. And in anyway, After Forever is more of a Therion ripoff than Nightwish.

WiC, you don't know what you are saying.Listen to My Pledge Of Allegiance #1 and hear for yourself how much talent Floor has.I'm not saying that Tarja sucks, she is perfect for Nightwish and Floor for After Forever. Both are very talented and had gone through a lot of training to sing so good.
For me personally Floor is the best soprano vocalist ever.

I know exactly what I am saying. Decipher had some nice music, but their song writing isn't very good and songs become more and more boring, vocals don't fit the music very well and on many ocasions Floor's vocals made me cringe.

At least admit that Decipher is better than Angels Fall First and on par with Wishmaster.

I don't have Angels Fall First yet. Wishmaster is my least favorite Nightwish album, vocally it is better than Decipher, musically probably not, song structure/writing is better on Wishmaster.

Decipher - 85
Wishmaster - 85

You must have been a very generous man once. What could have changed you so much? :D
Your description of Decipher suggested a score of 60.

I never implied that Decipher is bad. And there is obviously different standards/expectations I have from Nightwish and After Forever. Yeah I was probably slightly generous with Decipher and slightly harsh on Wishmaster. But just because I gave them same score doesn't mean I think they equal to one another, because it is like compairing apples and oranges. These bands have very different styles.

It's called dialect and accent, bro. Go to Korea and order some cheese pizza and they'll go "cheezee peecha?" =)

Yeah, but Angels Fall First is essentially a demo. Nightwish were barely a band then, and hardly had a vision of the future. At that point they mostly an experiment by Tuomas.

Angels Fall First is really good when it's on, but those weird Finnish folk songs I could live without.

Someone tell me why they're so "good"?

Of course, this is always a question of personal taste and personal opinion...

Lots of people HATE this band and it's their right, I respect it. On my side, I don't have any problems with Nightwish. It's one of my favourite bands and here why (FOR ME):

- I love the vocals of Tarja (I just LOVE this kind of female vocals) but on the other hand, I don't really like when the guy (Marco) sings. I'm not crazy about his voice...I think he "breaks" a bit the songs...(sorry...)

- Lyrics are great (meaningful, give me a good "picture" of what happens in the song) and they're usually well written. That's something I like from them.

- THE MUSIC !!! I wouldn't say that I like ALL thir songs, there are some that I don't like very much and that I skip...but in general, it sounds good and original to me, the sound quality is great and there are lots of different instruments, etc. I LOVE their music, which I don't think is so "easy" to play !!!! Quite original music. Good beat.

For me, all this is a great "WHOLE" and make of Nightwish a good band. I like all their albums in general. Some songs that I don't love, but still, in all, their albums are good !! "Oceanborn" is probably my favourite one.

Tctctctc
Try listening Tarot - Suffer Our Pleasures and tell me then that Marco doesn't sing good.I think his voice is much needed in Nightwish and not like on early albums when Tuomas used to sing, he sings like a gay.

Tuomas sings like a gay? I'd imagine he does everything like one. Rides a bike like a gay, goes grocery shopping like a gay, brushes his teeth like....

He has a crap voice, but he admits that himself.

I think Marco's voice is amazing though - it does indeed seem to 'break' a bit, but that's part of the appeal. I always grin like a stupid bastard when he starts singing in Phantom of the Opera. Its just cool. :D

After having listened to most of their CDs a few more times and given them a few months to settle in, I can say I've gone off Nightwish entirely. Ghost Love Score was stopping me from realising this earlier, because it blows away all their other work.
