I just don't get it why he decided to leave. It is not like Iced Earth has some negative or even meaningless songs. IE songs are very positive and have a lot more meaning than some crappy police band. And any moron with highschool degree can be a cop, but not many can be one of the best vocalists in metal. Just makes no sense. I think he is with this band because he is starting to miss being in a real band.

His heart wasn't in the music business anymore. He didn't want to earn his living recording music for a record label. He wanted to serve his government, whether we all agree with the choice or not. The police band is not about creating original music. It's just using entertainment to serve the community he's working in. And it gives him a chance to perform from time to time.

I got out of the military when I was already halfway to retirement. Now, I'm doing almost the same job as a civilian. Alot of people around me don't get it, but I knew the military wasn't in my heart tanymore.

It's hard to understand unless its happened to you, but your heart can simply not be into a situation anymore, and if you don't change your environment at that point, you only hurt yourself.

if you'll all recall, Jon says he nearly quit the music business too. Whatever Jon found to bring him back, wasn't there for Matt.

I am sure 80% of people in the world are not crazy about their jobs.

Man i understand that you would have liked Matt to stay in Iced Earth but give it a rest. He felt like moving on. He had the opportunity to do so. And he did. Not that hard to grasp.

That would probably be the most exercise some of those kids get.

And if it's possible to get out into a new career that you'll be happier in you shouldn't do it?

You obviously have not been in the career-world yet. A job is just a job. A career is a life choice. Until you experience this, you have no frame of comparison.

Matt did not leave IE because he didn't like his job. He wanted to live a different life entirely. I do the same job I did in the military, but I now live a completely different life due to my entirely new environment. That is what Matt did.

Iced Earth wasn't his band, though! Maybe he wanted something for himself? Iced Earth is Jon Schaffer and it always will be! I agree to an extent that Matt is in this band because he misses something, but that is most likely just singing. That does NOT mean he wants to be in a band like Iced Earth with all the hassles of touring and whatnot. Jon has the drive for that because Iced Earth is HIS thing.

Matt has done what he wanted to do. He followed his heart! Sounds cheesy, but it deserves a hell of a lot more respect than what is being shown in this thread!

I did 8 years in the Air Force, realized I hated it, it sucked ass! Got out and got a job as a civilian on an Air Force base doing the same job, realized I hated it, it sucked ass, got fired! Hahahahaha!

Most people are giving him some respect. There are just a few who think it's their decision what's best for Matt.

I noticed that site seems pretty new with alot of pages still under construction. It looks like there will eventually be some audio! I'm going to have to hear it if they do, just for the novelty of Matt Barlow in another world :P

Ha ha.. Who'd have thought the guy who sang a song like Burnt Offerings would start singing about "staying away from violence" and "respecting your parents?"

The NEW Burnt Offerings:

Don't do drugs
They'll offer you marijuana
Make the sacrifice
Tell 'em "talk to the hand"
Don't do drugs
They'll offer you marijuana
Make the sacrifice
You don't need to get high!
