Post subject: BRAINSTORM!!! You Need To Hear This Band!!
PostPosted: Wed Aug 03, 2005 3:16 am
Man, this band is so fucking good! I first heard them about two months ago when I picked up Liquid Monster for $7.99 on a whim. Usually when I buy used I won’t pay $7.99 unless it’s something I really, really want. Luckily for me, that day I didn’t find anything else worth buying so I paid that price, and I’m so happy I did. The CD kicks all kinds of ass! Since then I’ve picked up Ambiguity, Soul Temptation and a single/EP for “All Those Words” with three unreleased tracks. I’ve paid full price for those because this band is that good!! Old school metal with hints of power metal. Some of the songs are so heavy you could put a melodic death metal vocalist on the song and it would fit perfectly! Anyway, these are some MP3s from their albums. I can’t vouche for the albums Metus Mortis, Unholy and Hungry because I don’t have those yet, but these songs all kick ass (“Nails In My Hand” sounds like shit, not sure if that’s a bad rip or if the CD production is that shitty).

Brainstorm – All Those Words (Video)
Brainstorm – Blind Suffering
Brainstorm – Hollow Hideaway
Brainstorm – Tear Down The Walls
Brainstorm – Highs Without Lows
Brainstorm – Voices
Brainstorm – Nails In My Hands
Brainstorm – Here Comes The Pain (Sample)
Brainstorm – Maharaja Place (Sample)

I've listened to Liquid Monster a couple times and thought it was so so. I've heard several people say it's really awesome. Maybe i should give it another spin or two.

I don't know. I think it bridges the gap between the old school Metallica-styled metal and power metal without getting cheesy. The songs are sung in a mid-range tone only occassionally hitting that high power metal tone, but even then it's usually just a note or two, not a whole song. I think this band is a really good band for fans of traditional metal that can't get into power metal.

Out of the three CDs and EP I have by them I haven't come across one bad song yet. I really like them because these days it seems like metal bands are really heavy like the melodic death metal/metalcore bands or they're melodic metal like At Vance or power metal, those bands like early Metallica and Megadeth that sort of sat in the middle of those styles aren't as abundant as they were before, at least that's what I think. This was a welcome style for me.

Yeah from what I have heard they are pretty good, but when I heard them they didn't sound all that apealing. Then again I only heard a couple of clips, so who knows.

I have Brainstorm - Soul Temptation from them, is pretty good, they have certain elements in theyre power metal sound that sets them apart from the shitloads of similar copycat power metal bands out there, have not heard the new one though, i see it got mixed reviews.

I heard Soul Temptation and wasn't impressed. Then I saw them live last year and I was very impressed. You'd think that would make me go back to listen again, but no. :) They are supporting Saxon in October, so I will probably give them another try.

Yeah, Soul Temptation was good but nothing amazing when I heard it.

Then I saw them live and realized how awesome the material was (for a live setting). Great live band!

I like their new one though, more midtempo numbers which I like better then speed metal

I just think they're excellent. I wish I could see them live! That'll never happen! They'll tour Bulgaria before touring the US.

Metus Mortis is better than Soul Temptation. At first I loved this band then I got bored with their sound.

Where did you get that info ? I don't know of any Brainstorm concert here.
The only confirmed are Destruction 26 of august and Gamma Ray with Accept in 27, which i plan on visiting.I think Paradise Lost are coming in October. That's all, no Brainstorm( i checked their site just to be sure and it says nothing of this).

PyroMan :) Read it again :(
But don't be sad, the irony isn't justified. To have Destruction, Accept, Gamma Ray and Paradise Lost in one year, it's not bad at all.
Seems german bands like Bulgaria. Aren't Helloween coming too? They'll hit Bucharest in January, I'm already buying a ticket for that.

Yeah i got it now..ooohh the irony.
And yeah Helloween are coming in 29 of january, it's going to be awesome.I missed them back in 2003 but not this time.
This is by far the best metal year for Bulgaria. So many good bands are coming. There were 20 000 people on the Deep Purple concert, and probably even more on Dio. :D

Yeah, I don't know what's going on anymore, but I'm not complaining. Over here, we got Moonspell, Rotting Christ, Megadeth and Therion so far. Nightwish are coming again, in September, and I've heard a rumour of Lake of Tears, which would be great, because I really respect that band.

Hahaha! You're from Bulgaria?? :D I was just trying to make a point a that Brainstorm would play somewhere else before the US. I guess Bulgaria isn't as obscure a country as I thought!

Yep i'm from Bulgaria alright. That's why i wrote on location BUL, so that you may know. :)
I was initially so thrilled that Brainstorm may be coming i didn't notice the irony in your post. Not many bands visit my country, this year may be the turning point however. The fest Monsters Of Rock is starting this year and Scorpions have the privilege to make it official.Besides it might had a better effect saying that Brainstorm would tour Iraq before touring US.At least then no one would be confused, even someone from Iraq. :D

Yeah it is. I agree on that one. I also like Soul Temptation but I think their new one isn't that good. It is okay, but nothing special. However I would really like to see them playing live. They have toured even in Denmark and haven't come to Finland. I have their bonus dvd and on that they kick ass live...

I have Metus Mortis now and I don't think it's as good as Soul Temptation. It's heavier musically, but there's less melody, less hook. My favorite band growing up was Def Leppard so I'm addicted to those catchy-as-hell choruses!! :D

I just ordered Unholy with a bonus track from Sentinel Steel so that just leaves Hungry left and I'll have everything. Of course, Hungry seems to be pretty hard to find. It's not very good anyway, I downloaded it. The production is horrible and I'd say half the songs are just boring. Some are really good, though. Too bad they sound like shit.

Great band, though. I'm still listening to them all the time!!
