God, I'm so sick of Opeth's shit. I'm so sick of people calling a band that's been retreading what they've already done since 1999.

Not only that, but this album is even worse than their last three. Even less energetic and passionate, filled with even more of their meandering bullshit.

As usual, it will be highly praised by just about everyone in the metal community for reasons unknown to myself. Then come the interviews: they'll be hailed as geniuses, yadda-yadda-fucking-yadda, how do you manage to create such music, you rule, can I suck your cock...

Man, I hate Opeth.

Youre right Opeth fanboys are the worst only equal to Dream Theater Fanboys,But Opeth itself is a good band is just that some people consider their music to be boring, but calling them genius, well thats insane, just like calling Pettrucci a genius

They're bad, but I'd rather be in a room full of DT and Opeth fanboys than Tool ones.

Hrm.. it's not like I'm falling for the "Opeth are the future of metal!1" hyperbole.. I just like their music, haha. I can see why you'd prefer Agalloch but I prefer Opeth.

I'm not going to fanboy for them, though, they definetly have plenty of flaws.. people giving this CD 100/100 are probably suffering from first-listen enthusiasm.

I've listened to the full album about seven times now, and I stand by my 100/100.

No other band out there embraces me like Opeth, and this album has done so the most. It's very original and dynamic (Gast, you really need to learn what that word means).

I guess Opeth doesn't effect everyone the same, but that's no reason to discredit my opinion. And Gast, is "The Grand Conjuration" still the only song you've heard? If so, listen to the entire album before passing any judgments. Calling it metalcore made you look like a retard--no offence.

I heard the Grand Conjuration several times now, and it sucks. That song certianly has a metalcore influence. I might borrow this from a friend sometime and check out the other tracks, but I have no intention of wasting my money on this. This will be the first album of Opeth I won't buy.

I just got this one. It's pretty good, but I haven't given it a full listen yet. I definitely don't like the guitar tone, though. It's too clean and processed; I prefer a more organic, straight into the amp, live sound.

I guess I'm a Dream Theater and Opeth fanboy. At least I'm not a Meshuggah fanboy though; they haven't written a new riff since Destroy, Erase, Improve. It's just the same damn riff on chugga chugga 8-string guitars in slightly different time signatures, along with lame solos that have NO sense of melody or structure. I never understood the term wankery until I heard recent Meshuggah.

I also wouldn't say that Opeth are more overrated than, say, the dozens of derivative, poorly produced black metal bands that get 90+ scores on this site.

I can enjoy most Opeth albums, but the only one I've really put on on more than two occasions is "Damnation".
I know, it's their softest, but to me their best. I haven't heard their latest CD yet.
What date was it exactly released? And how come you all already heard the album? Did you get promo's or did you buy it?

You can listen to a 14 minute track on their website, Opeth.com.
You just have to provide an email.

BTW, doctor of metal, love your Avatar. That Agalloch is quite dear to me.

I called the influence metalcore, because of all the chuggah chuggah riffs in the grand bullshit fest. Luckely they are not as annoying as that on the rest of the album (Friend sent me).

I just listened online to that song "grand conjuring" twice.

What can I say?
Nothing special.
I hope it's not representative for the whole album.

Finally! I had very high expectations on this album coming from one of my favourite bands and thankfully, Opeth delivers once again a fantastic album all the way through.
Now I just hopes that whoever has the pleasure of reviewing this record here on metal reviews appreciate it as much, or even more, than I do.

hmmm....ive given it 4 or 5 listens, at the moment 80/100, it's very good, just that not every track is as good as some...

imo ghost of perdition is the best track by faaaar-if the album was as good as that track it'd be getting a 90+from me.

They played "The Grand Conjuration" at Sounds of Underground last Thursday and it impressed the hell out of me.

Cant wait for the new album.
