One of my most listened recordings, at least going back a decade or even more so. Still listened to this day, never nearly as much anymore, yet still, it never completely leaves my memory. And this speaks profusely about the stellar status of the music itself.

Rush's three albums from '77 to '80 mean the world to me. They have gotten me through some remarkably difficult times and so for this reason I have a great affection for them. I am revisiting A Farewell To Kings to take a break from the extreme metal I have been listening to and also to renew friendship with a very old friend.

I had to make the switch by the last track of the Rush album. A bit too soft as it is today. Perhaps that will change in a few months time, but for now, back to darkness.

A contemporary favourite of mine when it comes to extreme metal.

Another contemporary favourite of mine. Tasteful and exotic.

The essence of the diabolic and the innocent exemplified in musical form.

Well, I'll be honest and say that I have never shown the greatest interest in thrash/groove in the least bit but with the overture of the all the bands that I have missed out throughout the years Overkill is one that needs my attention. I had them in my collection many years back but never gave them an attentive listen, or ever really had an appreciation for this brand of music. I'm still not crazy about them but I certainly like them quite a bit and have listened to them much more frequently than ever before. I only have this recording and Ironbound and I will say that I liked Ironbound a bit better. Made of steel and very sharp music. Excellently produced.

I like several of the Opeth albums which followed the first three, but none of them connect to me as emotionally as those first three. Morningrise was the first one I bought (paired with Blackwater Park oddly enough) and was my favorite record for a few years. The melodies are unsurpassed imo.

Such an excellent album.

Exceptionally strong intro/first track, I managed to get several people to admit liking Rise of Sodom and Gomorrah on a metalcore band discord, which probably speaks to how universally strong the album starts.

Well I got through Blood Geometry, but not all at once, and I nearly skipped the last track. I still think it starts off strong with Choir of Venus and Temple is Falling, Sigils and Pyramids certainly have their moments too, but for me the album comes down to Blood of Ancients, Blood of Hatred. The blastbeat section at 8 minutes, the indelible tremolo riff at 16 minutes, the slower, ambient sections in between, the doomy section at 23:45, it all turns out to be an excellent album length song on its own. Also Skepticism, Mournful Congregation, and Esoteric are much better for my psyche than this, I can't imagine ever wanting to revisit it.
