Leave the fucking hall.

IDLEWILD (unfotunately, past tense may be more appropriate there :( )

The Manics are/were amazing, and still kill as a live band.

Well yes when I said "indie" I myself was thinking of more of a britpop angle.

Britpop, indie ?

I guess your indie is my mainstream when it comes to "pop related things"...

ho, btw :
Skunk Anansie : just fucking mainstream mtv rock, awful
Blur : great great great band (Gorillza too)
Radiohead : great band too
Kulashaker : annoying below average pseudo psychedelia

Now what you must realise here is that when I say indie, I don't mean anything which is "independent". In fact: "indie" is one of the most mainstream of genres! I'm thinking of a very specific scene that is perhaps much more dominant over here than where you are. Possibly best just described as "guitar music" by some. Hard for me to describe, so I shall just list to you what I would interpret as the archetypal indie bands:

Blur
Oasis
The Charlatans
Coldplay
Manic Street Preachers
Supergrass
Ash

etc etc...

Seems we just have different definitions of the term.

Anyway: Skunk Anansie are not crappy mtv rock! You appear to be thinking of Avenged Sevenfold!

I disagree with the Manics being considered indie, their discography spans several different styles. Their first two CDs sound like bloody Guns and Roses, and the third is one of the darkest albums outside of metal that I've ever heard. From Everything Must Go onwards, I can see your point, although I think they're becoming U2-ish stadium rock-pop stuff.

PS, I love the Flaming Lips, what are they considered to be?

Well Indie is a broadly used term with more than a single defintion. It can include American stuff like Pavement and Weezer, as well as all the "Britpop" (horrible term) acts. I wouldn't call stuff like Coldplay Indie, however, just pop.

Well the American bands I'd consider indies are definitely people like Weezer, yeah. I don't really like this band so much. To tell the truth I'm still reeling from Zadsters assertion that the stereophonics (their name deserves not capital letters) are better than Blur.

I just prefer them overall. Not to say Blur are crap, but bands like the Stereophonics and Supergrass rose above the whole Oasis vs Blur war.

And come on, Parklife is WAY overrated.

The Great Escape is WAY underrated!

And I also love Parklife.

Y'know, I used to have time for the stereophonics, but then I realised that everything they'd ever....... done.................................................sent me......to........................................

The first album is a decent indie-pop record, and the second had a couple of decent songs. Everything since makes me want to kill myself just to end the pain of hearing it.
