Here is the thread where you posts all your favourite indie rock bands. (For those unfamiliar with this genre, it means rock music usually played by scruffy haired youths with acoustic guitars. For example Oasis, Blur, radiohead)

Muse are not allowed because they are shit.

For me it is:

Skunk Anansie
Blur
Radiohead
Kulashaker

Well, Muse, obviously.

Kasabien
The Killers
Kings Of Leon
The Stereophonics (much better than both Oasis and Blur imo)
Manic Street Preachers

and more later when I get my brain working.

Some Indie Rock/Pop I like:

Radiohead (I don't consider them Indie but seeing as they have already been mentioned I'll have to do so too...)
Bright Eyes
Cursive
Interpol
The Arcade Fire
Fiery Furnaces
Wilco
Kaada (more like experimetal Pop but meh)
The Decemberists
Kashmir
Modest Mouse
Manic Street Preachers
Blur
Gorillaz (more like indie electro pop but meh, they're good)

I'll think of more...

I'd say Muse just to be contrary but I can't seriously call them an indie band.. they're too good with their instruments. ;)

Super Furry Animals got lumped in with the indie/britpop scene at the time, do they count? They are gods and owned the actual indie scene, which was all time-wasting music like post-rock is now.

Radiohead and teh Manics are also cool.

Oh dear god!

Moving swiftly on....

Echobrain were actually pretty good. They were Jason Newsteads post Metallica project, with kinda a pop/rock feel. I would recommend their self titled debut. (I think it was their debut).

Yipe, I read TIE's list and that's not the indie I remember.. although it was tied to Britpop back then and most of it pisses me off now. ALL of TIE's list pisses me off, though.

Edit: Just remembered that Supergrass owned.

Don't assume, fellow poser!

I'd make an effort to sample the ones I'm not all that familiar with but right now I'm finding it very hard to find listening to indie, post-rock, emo, etc worthwhile.. a lot of songs in that vein really do waste your time. :?

Dismemberment Plan and Pedro the Lion suddenly aren't emo?

Anyway, this sort of music has fallen out of favour with me, that's all I was saying.

Well yes when I said "indie" I myself was thinking of more of a britpop angle.

Oh well at least it has proved a talking point.

Britpop, indie ?

I guess your indie is my mainstream when it comes to "pop related things"...

ho, btw :
Skunk Anansie : just fucking mainstream mtv rock, awful
Blur : great great great band (Gorillza too)
Radiohead : great band too
Kulashaker : annoying below average pseudo psychedelia

so indie bands are stupid cunts who can't play ?! :?

man, this only proves how little of the international indie scene you know... :P

and, to all who quoted bands like Manic St Preachers (good but how are they indie ?) Stereophonics (the brit Bon Jovi ?) or Kasabian (Gallagher, anyone ? who needs a new Oasis when the original is already fucking awful) : THOSE BANDS ARE MAINSTREAM !

Haha, TIE, the problem that I'm having is that for a few years, the English mainstream was composed of indie bands.. in fact it was so much of a glut that I never truly felt I had to dig deeper to find good bands, because they were already being shoved down my throat. Mags like NME and Face would always be about Pulp, Bis or the bloody Charlatans. Gah. It basically put me off the genre for life..

I take back my Muse comment because I'm sure there are indie musicians that can play.. Karate in particular, I remember you showing us they were all music teachers, haha. but you'd agree that a lot of indie songs sacrifice musicianship for the overall song? I know this is a similar aesthetic to much of black metal, but most indie minimalism really puts me off. I can't understand people who are excited when a new, say, Travis album is released.. their music is predictable, unadventurous, the chord sequences are from fourty years ago, and if the song even includes a solo, it's a recreation of the singer's melody line.

Frankly if I wanted minimalism I'd rather listen to dowdy boulders.
