I think the Derrick Green stuff is far better and A-Lex is their best album .

D. Green is better than Roots, i.e., Nation and A-lex are better. Arise, Beneath and even Chaos are lightyears ahead of D. Green Sepul.

Revisiting Roots years later, it's very clear that nostalgia biases me quite a bit regarding the album. Roots Bloody Roots and Ratamahatta notwithstanding it's pretty damn pedestrian considering their previously stellar output but, as Zad said, it's impact on the scene was staggering. For me, this fucker was such a gamechanger in regards to exploring world music (not just metal) that I can't bury it now like so many others have done. Hearing Max and Iggor play it live in it's entirety was really a cool "roots touching" (couldn't resist) moment for me as a metalhead. Crap or not, I will always have fond memories of this album.

Roots Bloody Roots and Ratamahatta are the only tracks I can remember from this record. Sepultura/Carcass/In Flames were my first 3 gateway bands so there will always be more fondness for Chaos AD and this recording then they deserve.
