I liked Carnival is Forever and I agreed with the review almost entirely so I'm sure I will enjoy this album. They are different than they began, but I agree with Goat in that they seem to be pushing their sound and I admire that. Not everything works, but a lot of it does and when your trying new things that's a pretty decent outcome.

I have had a chance to listen to this album now and I really like it. I don't understand some of the really bad reviews this album is getting. I could understand a mediocre review, but not a bad one. This band has experimented with their sound in ways that I have enjoyed. I do agree with Goat about the vox seeming somewhat comical at times, but I listen to Hammerfall and Hardline so I don't mind some camp in my music. The first few albums by these guys will always be classics in my mind, but I really do believe that they are trying to keep things fresh. I like it. It's powerful and jarring. I feel the same about the newest Cryptopsy albums that everyone loves to shit on. Take out the clean EMO style vox on The Unspoken King and that album slays. They have been through a lot so I'm impressed that the output has remained relatively consistent. I realize there is only one original member, but I have found myself pleasantly surprised with the creative directions they have explored. I believe it has allowed them to remain relevant in a very watered down genre of music. I'm actually excited for the new Cryptopsy too! I respect bands that try new things to stay fresh. I might not always like it, but I'm a musician myself and it's easy to stagnate if you don't so I always respect it. For example, Opeth's latest offerings. I may not like their new direction, but I understand the need to keep things fresh. Same thing with Metallica. Just enjoy the ones you like and don't listen to the ones you don't like. A lot of bands have many different sides to their sound. Some I follow allow their whole journey. Some I pick up in the middle or end. Some I only enjoy the beginning of their journey. It just depends. That's what is so great about following music.
