Borknagar - Colossus : this song is the main reason why I don't know if I'll ever like Vintersorg in Borknagar. Nobody can pull off the sound and atmosphere of the vocals created by Vortex on this track. It's one of the most unique sounding songs I think I've ever heard and the way the guitar melodies interact with the keyboards, all with this kind of dreamy-mid-paced type of rhythm just comes together in a way that few bands can match.

good pick! yeah its a pity vortex had to go,

I have changed my mind about one of the songs, but everything else remains the same. Lost in the Twighlight Hall is a great song, but it has to go. I'm replacing it 100 MPH by Cirith Ungol. It is a smorgasbord of rock metal. Blind GUardian had to be elimininated because

a.) They are not Iron Maiden
b.) Holy Terror's "Distant Calling" is the 2nd greatest metal song of all time.
c.) 100 MPH is the Greatest metal song of all time...so balls to you!

Very hard to pick 5, but here are some that could qualify:

Iron Maiden - Hallowed be thy Name
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Black Sabbath - Lonely is the Word
Savatage - When the Crowds are gone
Slayer - Dead Skin Mask

My 5 would be:

5) Arsis - Maddening Disdain
4) Judas Priest - The Sentinel
3) Dream Theater - In the Name of God
2) Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
1) Megadeth - Holy Wars...the Punisment Due

Honerable Mentions:
* Faith No More - The Last to Know
* Opeth - Advent
* Carcass - No Love Lost
* Dark Tranquility - Punish My Heaven
* Iron Maiden - Die with your Boots on

Oh, god. This is a tough decision. Well, I'll probably be kicking myself in the face 10 minutes after posting this, but here goes (in no particular order).

-Art of Life (X-Japan/Art of Life): 29 minutes of bliss, bliss and heaven. Of gorgeousness and...
"I believe in a madness called 'now'"

-Alone You Breathe (Savatage/Handful of Rain): Not much can compete with a closing track by Savatage.
"You've thrown it all away
And now we'll never see
The ending of the play
The grand design
The final line
And what was meant to be"

-American Babylon (Saviour Machine/II): I like sad, beautiful songs, and this certainly wins first price in that genre hands down.
"A thousand bloody hand prints stain the walls of liberty.
A stranger hides in dreams denied, awaiting his release.
I've seen this picture before.
I never thought that we would end up here..."

-Inquisition (Nikolo Kotzev/Nostradamous): Jörn Lande and Joe Lynn Turner fighting, catchy as... I don't know.
"Truth is something you'll never understand, and honestly neither can I"

-Fly Away (Eternity X/The Edge): Probably the best song on what is probably the best album I've heard.
"Was like I walked inside your mind
A darkened place with no windows
Was like through you I saw me
A gaping hole inside
The words never come out right
We must leave this room, take my hand..."

Honorary mentions: Rebellion (Grave Digger), Shadow Hunter (Angra), Farewell (Avantasia), Fantasma (Everon) and Emerald Sword (Rhapsody).

Add that one to my "honorary mentions" list, I don't see how I could have forgotten it. BTW, put 'Kamelot - Serenade', 'Virgin Steele - A Token of my Hatred', 'Ten - We Rule the Night' and 'Ayreon - The Decision Tree' on that list aswell.
*sigh... it should have been top50 songs. :P

Yeah, this is a tough one. I don't know if these are my top 5, as I think my favorites change over time.

1. Holy Diver - Dio
2. Hellrider - Judas Priest
3. A Question of Heaven - Iced Earth
4. The Journey - Pyramaze
5. Silent Screams - Halford
