Hope everybody is doin well. Mods, feel free to delete this if it's not the time, but I don't see why there can't be an ongoing thread for people to list their fave albums "so far"...

Anyways, I think this has been a killin' year for metal. My favorite "heavy" albums (loose definition):

Protest the hero--Volition
Coheed and Cambria--The Afterman: Descension
Cloudkicker--Subsume
The Dillinger Escape Plan--One of Us is the Killer
Scale the summit--the migration
Skeletonwitch--Serpents Unleashed
Deafheaven--Sunbather
Altar of Plagues--teethed glory and injury
Letlive--The Blackest Beautiful

(I guess this is rough descending order in terms of how much I liked the album)

Volition pretty much cements Protest the Hero as my favorite metal band, period (bumping out Converge...sorry Converge). Cloudkicker is fucking ace, and all of his music is free on bandcamp. Overall, good job metal.

What about y'all?

I haven't listened to a lot of 2013 releases, and generally those I have heard I didn't like, so this will be a very short list

ORCummentary - Orcs 1, Goblins 0

Avernus - Sadness EP (if re-issues of nineties releases count)

Nails - Abandon All Life. Heaviest band ever?
Satan - Life Sentence. So catchy.
Dillinger is sick as always.
Shining - One One One. Spring jams.
Kanye West - Yeezus. Summer jams.
Altar of Plagues is legit and still throws me for loops when I listen.
Chelsea Wolfe - Pain is Beauty. Possibly her best and some really haunting moments.
Author & Punisher - Women & Children. Songs have more emotion than last album.
Batillus - Concrete Sustain. Sick sludge metal.
Ancient VVisdom - Deathlike. Awesome acoustic rock.
Locrian - Return to Annihilation. Becoming one of my favorite drone bands.
Iron Reagan - Worse than Dead. Too fun.
A Pale Horse Named Death - Lay My Soul to Waste. Solid Type O substitute.

Deserve more listens: Cloud Rat's Moksha, Terra Tenebrosa's The Purging, Skagos' Anarchic, Touche Amore's Is Survived By, Ulcerate's Vermis, Woe's Withdrawal, Turnstile's Step 2 Rhythm.

Oh, shit, I have so much to listen to before year end lists.

Name someone gnarlier. We may just have different criterion, because Nails is fucking sick.

I didn't know they had a new one out, I'll have to give that a listen too.
