Well-crafted power metal with a viking theme. Nothing special.
Edit: Listened to the title track some more. When I heard them sin 'Lost like a rainbow in the night" I was laughing out loud.
Hate to correct you. The lyrics are "I was lost like a raven in the night." If you're talking about the title track Valkyrja.
Yes, I just listened to it too. I think you write good reviews, Jared, but these really high scores are hard for old veterans of metal listening to accept. As Karma said, I heard well-crafted power metal with a viking theme, not sure how that translates to something garnering a perfect score.
Much appreciated. I just really enjoyed this album more being the younger person on here I guess. It left a really big impact on me, hence giving it the best score possible on here. I've seen quite a few perfect scores for this since I have written this up, but that in no way justifies to anyone who has a difference of opinion that this deserves a perfect score. To me, this album had everything going for it, so in my personal opinion it just fit for me. Now this will probably be one of very few I give a perfect score....but I was bound to hear something that would've blown me away eventually. Maybe not to some, which I can understand why some older metal veterans could find this undeserving.
As for the genre, they obviously have a power/heavy metal feel to things with a folk/viking theme. Its just a label....but I always think "Viking" with these guys. This album in no way reflects a Bathory Hammerheart feel, but it still depicts Viking imagery in my mind, so it just felt appropriate. Labels I think have changed a bit as time has passed. Of course this is debatable.
