Sadly, I don't hear any metal when listening to this. Only dance grooves, and Trent's all too common woe is me lyrics.

Ditto. The man's 40, and he still sings about ex-girlfriends?!

I think someone on Amazon described it best: "Industrial Gone Metrosexual". Not my thing.

Hey, if people can review Billy Idol here, I don't see why I can't review Nine Inch Nails.

Note that I didn't call it 'metal.'

Im not complaining about the review, if the band exists its because someone like them, aparently some guys in metal reviews like them and they can do whatever they want with their site.

So what are you saying when you say 'this album isn't metal.' I know it isn't metal, take a look at the genre I listed. Nobody in this thread calls it metal.

So what are you trying to say? I'm legitimately confused.

I would have given this album a 45. 2 good songs and a bunch of whiny, boring crap. I used to be a NIN fan, but this is borderline awful.

I gave it 65 as it's a fine album.. under par by NIN standards but stil way better than the majority of what the industrial pop scene can provide... sure Reznor is now trying to cash some easy money on his past hard work but it does that pretty well. yet, this is NIN's worst

so, it's a mixed bag for such a talented artist. He who used to fly with birds is now back on the ground... hope he takes off on his next effort...

Gather around me children, as I use my mystical powers to reach back into the past...and I behold a figure standing there, staring at me in reproach. "Zadster," he says, with a catch in his voice, "you let them review that fool, and yet my own efforts go unrewarded?" He gets closer, and I see with a start that his ears are not like other peoples'. They are long and pointy, like a goblin's!! The light falls on his face and I recognise the face of Mortiis! The one-time bassist and lyrical poet of Black Metal titans Emperor has come demanding why Danny of Metal Reviews will not review his album because it "isn't metal", and yet Aaron of Metal Reviews reviews the album of that overrated housewives' sexual icon Rent Treznor, who wouldn't know metal if you hit him with a battleaxe!

Um, once again: If Billy Idol and Styx can be reviewed here, why can't I review Nine Inch Nails?

Why should Billy Frickin' Idol OR Styx OR Nine Inch Nails be reviewed? If you're (and by that I mean MR as a whole, not you Aaron) not going to review Mortiis b/c it's not metal enough, what's happened suddenly to change your minds? Have you (whisper it) sold out?!

I'm judging my constraints for reviewing on what everyone else reviews, not on some official site 'IS IT METAL ENOUGH' policy.

My reasoning:

A. Styx is not metal.
B. Nine inch Nails is probably closer to metal than Styx (the Broken EP is a good example of this)
C. Styx has been reviewed here, so...
D. I'll review some Nine Inch Nails.

Since it caused so much ruckus, I promise you that when the new Nine Inch Nails album comes out in 2012, I won't review it.

Danny's decision to not review Mortiis based on lack of metalness was supposedly due to his 'betrayal' of metal rather than the lack of metal in his music, but I could be interpreting what he said wrong.

I don't speak for all of MR, so who knows what the official site policy on such things is?

I see your reasoning.

Hmmm...an official spokesman would be nice...

I'm going to back up DeadMachine on this... thank you for putting up a NIN review. Sure, it's not metal, but if you go to the main page, and click the "search" tab on the left side of the screen, "Industrial" is one of the categories you can search for, therefore meaning it's something this site will review on occasion.

I'm a big NIN fan, though I'm not sure how I feel about this album. It's cool to listen to, and it has some powerful moments, but other parts really let me down. I don't know how I feel about Trent Reznor trying to do a really high falsetto voice... he sounds more squeaky than pained. I want to give it a while to really sink in before I make any final decisions on how I feel about it.

Let's here it for more Industrial reviews! Who's with me!

Me!
It's not that I mind MR reviewing industrial music, it's the way they choose what to review and what not to. They review NIN but not Mortiis?! They review Billy Idol but not Burzum?! What's going on?

I personally love a wide variety of music, and am not protesting the more varied reviews that MR is putting out.
