IT'S GOT A BANJO

i haven't heard a lot of Revocation, but i liked almost every song i've heard from them. they seem to be on top of the thrash heap these days.

i don't like Vektor that much

I disagree, actually. I think Mafia was the last great thing they did before going in a more symphonic direction. Which, in theory, is not a bad thing - Wagnerian Death Metal is certainly a neat concept - but when you listen to newer Fleshgod, try and imagine how it would sound without the symphonic elements. Remove the keyboards and you'll be left with the most generic death metal imaginable because there are no identifiable riffs and the keyboards handle all of the melodic aspects. I'll wait to pass judgment until I hear the whole album though. The sound quality on this video is horrible and not really worthy of criticism because of it. Maybe Labyrinth will end up being better than Agony. Drums at least seem to be as killer as always.

Like power metal, then? ;)

Yes and no respectively, I can imagine the album's production being exactly like this - not the cleanest possible, but frankly I've heard a lot worse and if black metal demos teach you anything, it's that production comes secondary to the music itself. The song wasn't bad, at least...

Realised there's absolutely nothing coming out soon aside from the new Carcass that I'm really excited for. And it seems like a couple of gems like Teethed Glory aside, 2013 has been pretty fucking boring for metal so far...

Case in point - the new Watain sounds ridiculously unexciting and watered-down from the two tracks out so far:

I know what you mean about this boredom. Good thing there is still mountains of past material out there to examine/reexamine.

Indeed! On the lookout for interesting stuff, so if you have any suggestions for anything worth examining, you have my details...

Amen brother. :dio: I haven't been listening to anything at all lately, but that should change soon.

Much the same.

There's not been much "wow" stuff this year - a lot of average and ok stuff but not a lot of spectacular stuff. I think metal's going through one of it's downward trends at the moment.

If snippets are to go by, new Carcass sounds phenomenal.

Well, now that I think about it, if you haven't heard Monolithe III, I'd still strongly recommend that one.

You've only told me about that a hundred times, haven't you? *wince* Definitely on my list now, I'll have to listen...

Not at all! It best be worth the fuss when I do listen, though...

+1. Oracle tops all.

I have a long-sleeve Oracle t-shirt that's super comfy during the colder months.

NEW PROTEST THE HERO... updates
https://vimeo.com/71168323

what little music you can hear sounds awesome. ffs guys, give us something.

on Fleshgod, i agree the riffing is boring, but as long as the symphonic elements are good and varied enough to drive the album i won't complain. my biggest gripe is actually the drumming, good as he is i just can't stand so much blasting.

EDIT - just noticed noodles posted the same link on the pc+1 thread. what up noods.

New Jesu forthcoming! JKB has just had a kid, apparently, so expecting even more feels than ever. First track released is sounding suitably heartrending, and glad to hear he hasn't toned down the heaviness:
