Just recently snared one of their albums and it wasn't what I expected at all. I liked it though. So people any thoughts? Their best album? worst album?

They're like a weird black/doom/death metal hybrid

So I guess everyone's friend Varg tried to mailbomb them? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salem_%28Israel_band%29

Just from their wiki, apparently Euroymous was a big fan of the band and wanted them to move to Norway...Varg had other ideas. Fascinating story on this band, never heard their stuff besides the song RO posted, looks like reviewers think highly of their older albums, however their most recent was less well received.

Except for the fact that the drummer recanted the story.

Main thing I know about them is getting in trouble with the Israeli government when they did a song about the Holocaust... I'll have to lend them my ears.

I guess I'm willing to believe anything about our friend Varg these days. I read 'recanted' as 'recounted'.

It doesn't make for a very believable story considering each time they tell it the details change a little. If it was true you would think the story would be consistent.

But the idea that Euronymous was interested in supporting this band is highly plausible, at least.

I heard a few songs off of them when I was gonna buy Kaddish from NWN, they had a strong Rotting Christ influence but the material wasn't really that interesting.
