Just read this on Metalsucks:

Quote:
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: GIRLS DO NOT LIKE METAL!

http://www.metalsucks.net/2011/10/04/pu ... ike-metal/

Hilarious article - especially bit about anal bleaching.

However I think it's true.

I've never met a girl who actually liked metal.

The few chicks that hung around the local Metal crowd in my town would probably be classed as poseurs if they were guys - the heaviest stuff they liked was usually Nine Inch Nails (apparently Trent Reznor is "dreamy" )

Most of them would be best described as "junkies" (yet most of the guys didn't do hard drugs, that was more the rock crowd) and "damaged" (from typical lack of esteem to full fledged psychosis - one even tried to set fire to her ex's house).

I'm sure metal chicks exist somewhere out there but I've never met one.

I have proof that metal chicks exist mate. One of my close friends is a die hard metal fan. She's very keen on the more extreme metal sub-genres really.

They exist but like the article says they definitely are few and far between. Women that casually like metal and are really like a couple of bands aren't hard to find, but the few that have geek level obsessions like many guys have (like guys on this forum) are rare indeed.

I know three girls who like metal as much as/more than me and I hardly ever leave the house.

there have been a few on another forum I frequent whose metal knowledge puts some of the male members to shame. sadly these individuals don't tend to stick around very long.

Isn't this basically "I don't know any girls who like metal" vs "I know a girl who likes metal"? Obviously there are girls who like metal and MetalSucks writing an article designed to wind people up, well, whatever next.

A more interesting topic is that I think people who explore music via the internet tend to end up with a different type of knowledge than people who don't. Like a "lots of obscure bands from all over the world" vs "the big names and local bands" situation. I say that because the metal girls I know all fall into the latter category. Well, people I know IRL fall into the latter category, even the guy who spends a lot of time on music websites. sampling bias

I would fall into the latter category myself my music knowledge could absolutely be better then it is. That being said I am almost constantly expanding my knowledge.

Certain styles of metal definitely have more female fans than others!

why girls are in the metal minority is an interesting question, though. before you say, it's because metal guys get all creepy, are we really worse than the stereotypical gangsta rap fan?

btw it's an incendiary piece, the author himself points out there are metal girls.. just not many of them.

Guess the real topic is heavy metal doesn't appeal to women in general and at least some women only pretend to be interested in the genre.

Yes there are girls who are into metal. There seem to be more girls interested in metal now, at least in my experience, however this may not be the case more broadly.

I don't think the discussion of why girls don't like metal is as interesting as why they do. There are any number of reasons why someone doesn't like a certain genre but only so many reasons why someone does like any given style of music. I wonder how many girls would share the same reasons for liking metal as many male headbangers.

noodles, do you think this has anything to do with masculinity/femininity in metal/music in general?

Article was written by Sgt D from Stuff You Will Hate. It's obv trolling. But he is right to mock metal dudes who think that they will find hot metal chicks.

These two are very true for me and sum pretty well my knowledge of metal girls...
- they are few.
- usually they like one or two band that are OK in their opinion.
- and from the mentioned above, the fraction that is really hardcore, usually know a hell lot about every local amateur band that play the genre they like.
