My friend had never seen the original so we made it our goal to watch it with the new one still fresh in our minds.

i haven't seen neither (or is it either?), but i'd have done it the other way around, no?
Well, that's what I thought first, but the original was very of its time in terms of graphics and what not so not knowing elements of the story while you're in the theater would create for some crazy intense moments, I imagine. The original is great, but I am curious how much I love it simply because of nostalgia, growing up and watching it. Haven't seen it in a few years, always reach for the second one when I'm in an Evil Dead mood.

Dead By Dawn and Army Of Darkness are among my favorite movies of all time and I cannot count the number of times I've seen them but I've seen the original only twice. Shame. Perfect time for a rewatch of the whole trilogy.

Don't enjoy watching the first right before the second for (maybe) obvious reasons.

I don't think I've ever encountered a 'head that hasn't seen The Evil Dead. Odd.

If you dig horror laced with subtle black humor, you can't go wrong with the Evil Dead. Despite it's (lack of) budget, there are flashes of directorial brilliance throughout. I've seen it literally countless times, and I never tire of it.

seeing the remake first, with all the shiny new movie bells and whistles, would probably ruin the original for me, assuming the remake is well made (as it seems to be).

V, i was never much into horror movies, and a lot of stuff never really made it big in Portugal outside a certain subculture. i know literally zero big horror fans and only a few serious metal fans IRL, btw. not exactly popular topics with the indian/economist crowd  (family/school friends). i know many movie buffs and they know it but never saw it either.

of course, i am curious to see it. i did catch Army of Darkness and loved it.

My First Mister - Some iffy parts (everyone was so unhappy!) but made me laugh and made me cry and it had an interesting way of presenting her taste in music/style, then presenting his music/style, then showing how they could overlap.

You got too admit when Zod and his cronies first appear and they hack everything saying we are not alone was pretty cool.

I know you're some super intelligent being noods, and I'm just a caveman by comparison, but I didn't think it was dumb. Mindless action, yes, but dumb? How?

Yeah, I think to him "mindless action"=dumb. I wouldn't say mindless action is dumb, but it also doesn't appeal to me very much.

Watched Expendables 2 recently and was hugely disappointed in the action side, speaking of dumb action, although Chuck Norris etc were quite amusing. The script was basically constant one-liners at points.

You US/Canehdian peeps, I'm hearing good things about This Is The End, anyone seen it yet?

That part was good.

Two reasons I thought it was dumb: 1) The story could've raised interesting moral dilemmas (kryptons needing a new planet but needing to destroy humanity to get it, superkid wanting to save people but needing to hide his powers) but instead they made Zod sound like a Nazi and filled the movie with explosions. 2) Felt like a parade of overdone tropes in terms of execution/cinematography/music, e.g. having the music cut out to near silence when Zod stabs Russell Crowe.

It wasn't bad. I mostly enjoyed watching it. But it was the most infuriating kind of "not bad" since it reached that by being good at playing it safe.

I guess a criticism of it as an action movie is that there was never a baseline established for what hurts the kryptonians/superman, so when they were battling it was hard to tell when one side was accomplishing anything, which ruined the tension of the fight scenes.

This Is The End was terrific - funny, had Black Sabbath on the soundtrack, Seth Rogen wasn't irritating, and Michael Cera died horribly. What more could you want?

Watching Hot Tub Time Machine again this evening, since I'm in a mood for comedy. Love Craig Robinson, and John Cusack should make more funny films, it's what he started off doing after all.
