So I saw Sibelius' Violin Concerto and Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring on the weekend. My friend said that the Sibelius was very feminin while the Rite of Spring dripped with testosterone. Which made me think: what are the traits of "feminin" music? What are the traits of "masculin" music? What bands would you consider the epitome of masculinity/femininity in metal?

I suppose if we're looking objectively female fronted metal bands tend to focus strongly on either melody or have heavily entrenched symphonic elements. Of course this isn't always the case and isn't limited exclusively to female fronted bands. When I hear someone say "masculine" metal (and that's not very often if I'm honest) I think of bands like Dark Angel, when I hear the term "feminine" metal I think of Nightwish.
