I'm thinking I'll probably have the same haircut forever. I saw a guy at the show who had hair down to his chest and shaved at the sides and it looked really great, but I think my hair is too thick so if I do that it just looks grungy rather than artsy and elegant. Also gotta grow it long for it to work.

Long hair with parts of your head shaved never, repeat NEVER, looks good.

It makes people look like hipster wankers who are trying to get as many people's attention as possible. AND then they usually complain when people stare at them, even though that's obviously what they want. FUCKHEADS.

Either have long hair, or shave your head. It's one or the other.

If you don't think he looks like the most ridiculous loser of all time with that haircut, then I don't think we could ever be friends.

I don't think that this one opinion makes you a bad person, or a stupid one, or anything extreme like that. It just shows me that we're fundamentally different people who would never agree on very much, and probably shouldn't bother trying.

And I agree with noodz.

I really need to let my hair grow out, but I lack the patience. Plus my hair is super thick and wavy so it would never look as slick as Marston's. I feel like attention-whoring is an awkward accusation. I don't want to be a hipster, I generally just try to cut my hair a la Newsted and Anselmo from in the 90s. I just have a different length or texture to my hair that makes it look hipster-y.

I don't know how he looks like a fucking idiot. It's well maintained. He has his hair exactly how he wants it. I would want that hair because it's the best of both worlds. Long on top and soft and short on the sides. Mind you I'd maybe go a little wider down the middle, but it's comfortable to cut your hair that way. Plus dude can still headbang without being smothered by his hair.

Also it's no different than Phil Anselmo's and mind you Marston doesn't have ratty braids or dreads or whatever those are:

So fuck you, haters.

I probably already made my position clear, but what the hell, I'll +1 this anyway.

Newstead is the only person who gets credit for it, but not because he looked good. Only because he did it 1987, when it was original. Originality gets some credit with me. But he still looked stupid.

Is that with free tuition or does that money go towards paying for tuition? The prospect of getting $15,000 and not having to work while you're doing your Master's would be pretty awesome. Now, if girlfriend could earn enough to pay the bills with the smaller $6,000 then hop on that. As someone whose grades suffered the first year in grad school because I was working too much, I would strongly suggest taking the larger amount of money if you can live on it comfortably. Also what kind of opportunities come with each offer should be considered. If you are a teaching assistant for one and not the other, you should keep in mind how that will look good on future CVs and what not. That's the only problem with where I'm at now. I make enough money and love what I'm doing, but they're giving me the money for nothing so I'm not getting any teaching experience. I've been an assistant for two classes during my Master's, but I really need the teaching experience which I won't get till my fourth or fifth year.

It's from teaching assistantships at both schools. Neither e-mail mentioned tuition so I am guessing it is not waived. I'm a bit worried that having less money would be stressful and distracting, because I'd be taking out student loans and I'd feel pressured to take on research assistantships as well for more $$$. That said, the pressure might be a good thing for building my credentials.

re: hair, I have a big head and volumnous hair so the long but shaved appeals to me because I like the look of long hair, but if I let it all grow out it makes my cranium look gigantic. Having less or no hair at the sides makes my head more vertical and balanced looking.

I've never heard of a teaching assistant ship that doesn't waive tuition. You should call the grad directors about that. I don't know about your status of residency relative to where each of these universities are but tuition could be ridiculous if it is not waived. You live in Canada so that might be a thing there, where they don't waive your tuition despite paying you to come there.

Both places would have prospective professors that presumably you would want to work with for your thesis if necessary? Just look into the cost of living and see where it would be most comfortable living. Especially if you plan on moving with your lady friend as you implied. You don't money stress on top of moving in with someone.

Long hair is only cool if you don't look like a poodle in the process.

You only have to look like a poodle for a little bit though, and then you look AWESOME.

Why not just tie it back in the meantime?

Nah, my hair is so thick and curly that I always look like a big shaggy dog. The problem really is having the patience to wait for it to grow long enough to tie back. And even when it is tied back, my hair is too curly and so it still needs to be slicked back and at that point, I might as well reduce volume and shave some of it. I have a jaw bone to put on display and a nice neck. Can't be hiding that.

Huge hair:
