METAL GODS MEGADETH NEW ALBUM 'SUPER COLLIDER' SET FOR RELEASE JUNE 2013

Dave Mustaine brings legendary thrash-metal pioneers to his own label with Universal for first time, uniting with his multi-platinum Capitol/EMI catalog

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 12, 2012 -For a heavy metal band that's been around for nearly three decades, selling more than 38 million albums worldwide, earning numerous accolades including 11 Grammy® nominations, scoring five consecutive platinum albums-including 1992's two-million-selling Countdown to Extinction -Megadeth's founder, leader and primal guitar-slinger and lyricist Dave Mustaine feels the best is yet to come, especially after signing an exclusive worldwide deal with Universal Music Enterprises.

Currently working in their studio in San Diego on their 14th studio album titled Super Collider, Mustaine, along with bassist Dave Ellefson, drummer Shawn Drover and guitarist Chris Broderick, are looking forward to its release in June 2013

Megadeth's Super Collider is the first release through Mustaine's new label, Tradecraft, through UMe.

With a newfound energy with the band, Mustaine is raring to go, preparing for his latest tour, marking the 20th anniversary of their best-selling Countdown to Extinction album. Mustaine added, "Shawn, Chris and David have all been feverishly contributing some great music and I believe we are doing our best work ever together in the studio right now!"

"Megadeth is not just one of the most successful metal bands, but one of the most influential rock bands of the past 30 years," said UMe President/CEO Bruce Resnikoff in making the announcement. "They continue to be a huge draw on the road with their longtime fans as well as continually adding new fans. I look forward to working together with them."

Mustaine formed Megadeth in Los Angeles in 1983, and with a string of five consecutive platinum and multi-platinum albums Megadeth became one of the biggest bands of the mid-'80s and '90s, boasting such arena anthems as "Symphony of Destruction," "Peace Sells, But Who's Buying," "Holy Wars," and "Sweating Bullets," along with the top singles in 1997/98 off Cryptic Writings, "Trust," (No. 1 track) "Almost Honest," "Use The Man" and "A Secret Place."

With the recent acquisition of EMI, UMe now brings together Megadeth's classic, 14-year, seven-album Capitol catalog, which includes one multi-platinum release ('92's Countdown to Extinction), four platinum records ('86's Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?; '88's So Far, So Good... So What?; '90's Rust in Peace; '94's Youthanasia), and one gold ('97's Cryptic Writings). In all, the band has scored five Top 10 albums (including 2007's United Abominations and 2009's Endgame) and two Top 5 releases, with 2011’s TH1RT3EN debuting at No.11 on the Billboard Top 200 and No.1 on the Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart.

Do all these bands like 'deth and Metallica starting their own labels mean that they will be signing other acts or is this simply going to be a way for them to get a larger cut of their own releases?

Not sure about Metallica, but I am pretty sure this new one Mustaine and co. are doing is to sign other bands as well. Probably the small opening acts that tour with them.

I'll buy this out of habit and because I'm a Thrash completist, but if I'm being honest I stopped really caring a few albums ago.

New releases by quite a few old Thrash acts still genuinly excite me. Testament, Overkill, Death Angel, the big 3 German bands, just to name a few. Even Slayer. For whatever reason I can't count 'Deth amongst them anymore.

I'd like to think it's not because Dave's a moron, since I try to separate music from person. But I think that's probably a factor.

But honestly Endgame and whatever that other one was weren't all that great. Besides Headcrusher, which is kinda sick. Saying this as someone who enjoyed United Abominations for what it was.

Th1rt3en was alright, so was Endgame. Nothig awesome, but not terrible. Some very cool moments and some very forgettable moments. I don't expect this to be any different, and I will still pick it up day one.

stupid album title if you ask me, but then so was the title of the last album, which in my opinion totally sucked with the exception of Never Dead and Sudden Death (which wasn't even a new track) I probably will buy it for the same reason I buy new Slayer and Maiden albums, hoping for something good but expecting mediocre at best

Expecting a solid album at the very least, enjoyed T13hi13rt13e13en (some excellent lead guitar on that) and loved Endgame.

I second that, but barring Risk, I liked all their albums. Maybe some less than the others, but I still give them a spin.

Endgame was great, Thirteen was alright.

Hopefully this one will be more Endgame than Thirteen.

I swear it feels like Thirteen just came out yesterday, hope this isnt just some rush job.

Endgame was the best Deth of the last decade by a mile, and possibly the 90's as well now that I am thinking about it (unless RIP was 90 something, dont recall at the moment)

Countdown to Extinction begs to differ. And hell, United Abominations as well.

Pretty gutted tbh, still want to hear it for myself, but expectations have just dropped like a stone...

Listening to the title track now and I sort of get what he's saying. What was Dave thinking?

Ouch. But that guy always has a hard on for Mustaine. But from what I've heard so far, this will be one of their/his worst outputs yet.

Still a day one purchase for me.

Looking forward to getting mine in the post today or tomorrow.

I stopped expecting Thrash from Megadeth (or Metallica or Anthrax) a long time ago. They write good heavy metal and I'm happy with that.

But then I prefer the rockier songs on Anthrax's Worship Music than the Thrashier ones.

Leave the pure Thrash to Overkill or Warbringer or Revocation.

^ This. I don't think we can expect another classic from 'Deth unless they decide to pull out all stop on the next one, which doesn't seem likely.

Anyone else listened to this yet? Not an Unspoken King-shaped abomination, but really tired and dull, despite Dave throwing stuff like bagpipes in there. The bloke from Disturbed seriously might be the highlight... Review this Monday.

I heard some songs. Unfortunately, they all seem kinda dull. And I liked the last three albums.

I listened to it and it's ok but I'm a huge Megadeth fan.

I actually like the song with the fiddle (Black Crow). There's some other catchy stuff but it's lacking in intensity.

Overall it's not as inspired as Endgame and seems to be the album Risk should've been i.e. in between Cryptic Writings and The World Needs A Hero.

Some of the songs sound too similar to songs on Thirteen.

I'd give it 3 out 5 (Thirteen gets 3.5 out of 5).
