Everybody loves to hate Dark Funeral, it seems, and to be honest I'm not their biggest fan myself. Along with Marduk, they are doing it all wrong, too blasty, sterile and generic, in other words, "norsecore" (yeah, yeah) :D

IMHO, of course.

BUT...
Secrets has always been a personal favorite; they got it just right on this one album.
The question is for those that generally don't care for the band: what are your thoughts on this particular release?

I'd give it a solid 8/10.

Only ever heard Diabolus Interium and Attera Totus Sanctus and didn't love what I heard.

If you like that blasting type sound which oddly I've found myself listening to less and less of, the German band Cirith Gorgor who are influenced by the early bm scene take Dark Funeral style riffs and combine them with good songwriting, a few Maiden melodies, and variation. Their first two albums aren't all that different from the usual mentions of Dark Funeral/Immortal, but the drumming prevents the second album from being as good as the first.

I fucking love Diabolis Interium and Vobiscum Satanas.

In Fact every Dark Funeral record has it's moments with probably only Attera Totus Satanas being the weak link.

Secrets is a good one, but I'm more of a fan of the albums I mentioned above.

You all know me, the Immortal, Marduk, Dark Funeral school of black metal generally isn't my poison. After I'm through spinning Panzerfaust, I'll have to check into Cirith Gorgor, though.

First track was good, second one didn't work for me.
Hyper-blasting black metal just isn't ever going to be my thing.

wasn't into the tracks you posted to be honest, sid, didn't like the production either.

the great thing about dark funeral is the production rocks as well as the song-writing.

Bit of a transitional band for people who haven't had their share of grim kvlt tr00ness just by wearing Children of Bodom t-shirts and, on the other hand, are not quite ready for vacuum cleaner black metal yet.
