three rounds into the season I am stunned my team is unbeaten, I expected Port to be 1 win and 2 losses and whilst we haven't beaten any significant opposition just yet we are playing very good football

and in AFL Dream Team round 3 last week completely ruined my team, 4 injuries with only two trades available yep that was really painful

I live in Queensland. If word ever got out that I even posted in an AFL thread while residing here, I'd be publicly lynched.

nah there are plenty of Queenslanders who follow AFL, I know two of them (one an old friend and for some unknown reason a Gold Coast Suns supporter after abandoning the Cheating Adelaide Crows) and the other (who I met through another forum who is a diehard Fremantle supporter). As for myself I'm a Port Adelaide supporter first and foremost however as one of my close schoolmates was drafted to Hawthorn I also follow them.

I've only ever met one, and he's from Victoria :P
Mind you I've only lived up here 5 years. NRL is almost an official religion here...

Not all that big on it really, but if I'd have to pick someone I'd go with either Broncos and/or Titans. Just because I'm originally NSW and have respect for a team with so many members who continually thrash us in State of Origin :P

Never really followed AFL tbh, the only team I've semi-followed (i.e., watched with a very drunk and very overly devout Pies fan a few times) was Collingwood...

Used to go for Hawthorn in another life time and then got sick of Aussie rules in about 2005.

Footie got really boring, really soft and too money obsessed in the mid-2000s - seemed the game spent more time in ball-ups than fluid game play.

Oh and the tedious time-wasting - fullback kicks to back pocket who then kicks it back to fullback who then kicks to the other back pocket.

And it seems that people get sent to the triabunal for every piddly thing. I remember watching an old game where "Lethal" Leigh Matthews knocked a guy out and kicked a goal.

As he's running back, you can see the guy he knocked out lying on the ground not getting back up.

Today that'd be a massive affair with a big suspension and fine.

And some of the stuff the old legends like Tony Lockett used to do would get them permanently banned.

----

Used to like F1 too until all the differential brakes came in about 2000-01-ish and McLaren dominated simply through technological means.

I was watching the English GP and a commentator stated that the race had become a matter of breakdowns and pit strategy, with driver input being of little relevance.

At that point I agreed, then switched it off and never watched another GP.

---

Basically modern sports is kinda boring and fucked - it's just about money, flashiness and no real substance.

Kinda like music really.

Most people I know don't follow any of the codes or cricket.

In fact people who follow AFL/cricket are in the extreme minority of people I know and I don't know any rugby fans (Tassie is an AFL state).

that's the opposite of my experiences. The overwhelming majority of people I meet are AFL fans (SA is very much an AFL state) and most of them aren't exactly shy about laying the boots in either. In South Australia it's sort of like an unspoken law that Port Adelaide supporters cop endless amounts of shit whilst the team is down but then again 36 local premierships in the SANFL (and when it was actually a credible competition) would tend to have that effect.
