Obituary - Gates To Hell

Classic old school DM. Nothing special actually. 4/10

Hexen - Stream of Consciousness. I loved State of Insurgency, but have yet to be able to get into this album. It is begins with standard prog thrash then transitions into its old straightforward thrash making the beginning superfluous. The solo brings back that progginess whne I actually want it to shred. 4/10.

Frenchie you and I are gonna have problems I'm afraid

Hexen - Stream Of Unconsciousness

vocals were weak, guitar however was by and large good, couple of dull passages throughout the song and the drumming left much to be disred, I'd say thats about average, maybe a little better then, 6/10

not expecting any higher then a 2 from Frenchie for this one

Annihilator - Human Insecticide. OH SHIT. One of the weaker songs off an amazing album, I would give probably every other song on this album besides this track at least a nine. The vocals are probably Anni' at their most aggressive a la Destruction maybe, but that's totally not what I want from them. The moments when the bass peers through Waters' solo, I always thought were so cute. The riff that kicks up midway through the song is great, but I just don't know what it's doing. 6/10.

Annihilator - Human Insecticide
My second favorite Annihilator album (Never Neverland number one!), far from my favorite song of the album though. A tad too simplistic for its own good but still efficient enough not to bore. As far as thrash metal is concerned this is pretty run of the mill... 6/10

Satan's Satyrs - Carnival Of Souls

sound quality really, really hurts this one, underneath all the fuzziness though this is pretty good, vocals remind me a bit of early ozzy-era Sabbath and the guitar tone is reminding me of Type O Negative, just wish the sound quality was better so I could enjoy this more 5/10

Enforcer - Diamonds

melodic riff circa most late seventies/early eighties metal bands, simplistic drum beat, pretty generic heavy metal really, slow part was dull and the virtual lack of vocals throughout meant little break in the monotony of this track, 3/10 because I'm feeling generous

formalities dealt with now it's my turn

Death - Leprosy

show me a better song then please, I can only react to what I hear and that song was not very strong in my opinion, but that's sort of the point of this thread, to rate a song, not the whole band but the song you are confronted with

Solid track from Chuck's band, nice leads and main riff, brutal if unspectacular sound. 7.5/10

Candlemass - Under the Oak. Solitude always dwarfs everything else on that album for me. But that opening riff! It was Sabbath-y, it was thrashy. Candlemass are the most epicus doomicus metal ever. DOOM. 8/10

Not as funny as Napalm Death's peel sessions but fun nonetheless. To be honest, I was glad it only lasted 80 seconds which is the perfect timing for this kind of thing
6/10

You haven't dug in to much early Suicidal Tendencies have you?

I have actually never heard any pre-BNR Sepultura so that was something new. It seemed like kinda generic thrash for back in that day. Lacked that intensity that later Sepultura albeit decent thrash. Loved the solo. 5/10.

Troops of Doom is the best pre-BTR song.

I love this thread for this reason, the variety of opinion here is much greater then on my former forum

no haven't dug into suicidal tendencies at all, I know one of their songs (institutionalised) and that was enough to convince me the band is not suited to my tastes

Arsis - Wholly Night

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tbPTzCidMI

oh and @DW yes that, but I figured everyone would have heard Troops Of Doom a million times

Have we had an Arsis conversation before? One of my favorite tracks off one of my favorite albums. Perfect blend of technicality and melody. I wish they still had that drum sound. The cymbals do so much work to give Guilt its unique vibe. 8/10.

Testament - Powerslave. Not gonna lie. I've never heard the original. But this was super fucking boring. The riffs plod along leaving it to be carried by Chuck's voice. Oh fucking hell. 3/10.
