The first half of Angel is better than everything off of Nostradamus. IMO Nostradamus had about 2 maybe 3 songs worth a damn.

must be my ears but Slayer haven't sounded metal to me for their last few albums, more hardcore punkish, actually I'm not the only person who seems to have this opinion there are a couple from my other forum who agree

They've sounded like same old Slayer to me. Basically think Divine Intervention mixed in with slower songs from South of Heaven and Seasons in the Abyss.

And I still love it.

I think it doesn't help many hardcore bands ape Thrash ala Slayer or melodeath ala At The Gates these days but then are hardcore cause they have short hair and wear colours other than black.

Nostradamus is (very) good.

To the first half, I'd add Loch Ness to which I must confess having a soft spot for... I love Rob's vocal melody (and the overall mood of the song).

hearing rumours of new Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Iron Maiden and Orphaned Land albums for next year (accidentally posted a bit about this in the 2012 thread)

only ones with anything significant to them are Megadeth and Orphanded Land both of which have mentioned writing new material

in the case of Megadeth Chris Broderick has refered to supposed new riffs as "vicious"

I also know Nevertanezra plan to either release a split or second full lenght by the end of 2013 to follow up on their late 2011 debut, quite excited to hear it as I quite enjoyed said debut

The new Orphaned Land is pretty interesting.

Have they released details about it?

The board's Aussie contingent should look for a tour from these guys. Even if you don't like tech death, I'm sure this would be a great show for the sake of spectacle. A punk friend of mine described seeing them live as disorienting and just the wall of noise washing over you, leaving you kinda sick as it floods over you, but also being intensely brutal in a way that forces you to enjoy it. He'd never listen to an album on disc, but he loved seeing them at MDF.

re Orphaned Land

mention on the band's official facebook of new material being worked on, that's about it for the moment but good chance they'll be recording it sometime early next year and hopefully release will be late next year

First single only 3 days away! So psyched. They're using the same producer that did Nick's Grinderman albums, so I'm expecting something amazing (as usual from Nick)

The cover doesn't look like it, but I didn't love how Dig seemed like the b-sides to the first Grinderman album.
