Yeah, Thomas, like myself has been behind Moonsorrow for a long time, and when he makes that type of comparison to an unknown band, it really serves notice. Thanks Thomas, will be checking this out.

Totally agree with Thomas about Moonsorrow, so I'll have to check this out when it comes... out.

Btw, this guys have two previous albums, I'll listen to them to ease the waiting.

Moonsorrow is still very relevant in my musical interests. Will be checking this soon. Thomas your reviews are immensely appreciated :)

I bet you will all love it. If you like Moonsorrow there's no reason you shouldn't love this. In some areas Rastlos is more Moonsorrow than Moonsorrow, but hell, this is way darker if you ask me, which kind of sets them apart.

Thanks for the kind words. There's been some time since words flowed so easily in a review for me, which really says it all. This is an amazing album.

Oh man this is sooo good. I checked out some of the songs of a previous albums, and it sounds like an amazing mix between Moonsorrow and Equilibrium.
Thanx Thomas, who knows when I would find out about these guys. Now I know what to listen over the winter.

Raising your expectations further, their previous work isn't anywhere close to this. That Untergang song is fucking great, but every song here thrumps it.

So this album drops the Equilibrium comparisons, right?

Oh well, that was one poorly edited version. Full version much, much better.

Thomas, you created much expectation in me when you said that any song from Rastlos was better than Untergang. And then this about how poorly the edited version of Nichts als Asche is. Even then, I wasn't prepared for the sheer brilliance and epicness of Rastlos.

This is the best I've heard in the genre in years. Finsterforst have taken the best from Bathory and Moonsorrow, added their own ideas and crafted something of their own. They give the nordic scene a run for their money (except Moonsorrow).

I'm arriving at work after a 200 km trip from my natal town, admiring the forests, fields and lakes while listening to this album. A very hypnotic and pleasant experience.

Album of the year for me. This has all the things I like most in Viking/Pagan Metal. Folk instruments, acoustic passages, gang/shouting choruses, combination of growls and clean vocals, melody and the whole atmosphere of glory and majesty. I wasn't bored by a single second. I think I'll be enjoying this album by many years to come.

So good to hear!

It's pretty fantastic yeah, definitely rivals my candidate for album of the year which is Overkill.

I'm giving this a first listen right now and I'm not even sure that the word epic appropriately describes this album? It is worthy of every bit of the praise that Thomas has given it. :dio:

Thomas have you given Heidevolk's 'Batavi' a listen? Considering how much you like Finsterforst you'll probably like the Heidevolk album as well.
