Coroner are cool. Creative riffs. Singer's a bit dull though.

It's thrash :P

Imho Thrash being doesn't mean having dull vocals. Bands like Forbidden, Heathen, Holy Terror and Artillery prove the contrary.

Coroner is a great band in terms of musicianship but they lack that energy I like in my thrash

I don't know how could you say that honestly. Punishment for Decadence is a tour de force. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qxzV_qDHng

Coroner is in my top ten for sure, but not the best. I prefer Holy Terror, Sabbat and Heathen.

Never liked Forbidden's vocalist.
Stellar axemanship, though.

Been listening to more black / thrash hybrids than pure thrash these days, though.
Witchaven, Sauron, Tyrant, Korgull the Exterminator, etc.

I need to explore that side of Thrash more. Only know Witchaven from the bands you mention. Good stuff.

It's a love or hate thing I guess, just like Cyriis from Agent Steel. I personally love his style.

It is. There aren't a lot of bands out there, though. Seems a very small niche, relatively speaking, which is odd.

Well, quality over quantity. What band is the best of the three (Sauro, Tyrant, Korgull)?

Sauron, probably. Trench Hell is good too.

Sampling Sauron in YT. The production sounds a lot like old Bathory :dio:

yeah, it's pretty primitive. And that's a good thing.

Is Absu too polished for you? I've been digging how their latest albums have worn their thrash on their sleeves.

Never cared for Absu, but it has nothing to do with their production.

Coroner is great, even more so than Holy Terror. I'd say No more color is their best though. Die by my hand and mistress of deception are the creme de la crop of thrash. I do not understand Tehom's opinion, because if there's one thrash band that combines technicality with great songs, it'd be Coroner.

Trying to comprehend Steve's (Tehom) mind is beyond us, don't worry about it :P

There isn't much to more to elaborate on here, they spend too much time in pointless instrumental passages and showing off how flashy their skills ar e as opposed to writing any memorable riffs, the music isn't as varied as any of the band's I mentioned in my prior post, and its just overall a standard tech thrash album.

throw Absu and Aura Noir into the black/thrash ring

Tara is probably Absu's best whilst Black Thrash Attack is my favourite by Aura Noir

I can understand the complaint that Coroner lack the energy of other thrash bands, but I still think they're cool anyway.

The riffs and solos are the best aspect of Coroner by far. Your dislike for bands with stellar technical prowess makes sense in a lot of cases, but not this one.

technical prowess at the expense of songwriting I would understand a dislike for, however Coroner actually have a great balance of the two, this is the same reason I like some tech-death bands but dislike the genre as a whole (confusing I know)

Nah I think most metalheads feel the same way generally.
