bear in mind I prefer my death metal on the tech side and haven't read through every post (and these were all bands suggested to me on another forum and some of them are christian tech-death bands so I don't know a great deal about them outside of their music itself)

Sickening Horror, really spazzy tech-death with some weird sounding shit at times

Quo Vadis, perhaps the finest example of tech-death done right I can think of

Centaurus-A, very jazz influenced tech-death, it works really well for them

Element, brutal tech-death which shouldn't work but does, very well

Sympathy, it's a shame these guys don't tour because they have some fucking stellar riffs, just unbelievable

Alethian - yes they are christian, yes their lyrics are very, very christian, and yes the growls can be so incoherent it doesn't matter what the guy is saying, but these guys are a truly outstanding tech-death band
Umm, how do these guys sound in comparison to Cryptopsy? I know Quo Vadis is sometimes aligned to a degree with Cryptopsy's sound, but they never truly seduced me.

Death.

They were just insanely impressive and the rest of the genre isn't as good.

Death are a fantastic band but they are far from under-rated and there are bands that are at least as good

Not underrated in the slightest. Everybody knows Death is sick. That's how most folks get into the genre, right?

Cannabis Corpse maybe? I wrote 'em off for the longest time as a joke band when they actually are pretty fucking awesome.

I've stuck with Beneath Glow Lights Thou Shall Rise and it's a doozy.

I've heard quite a bit of Cannibal Corpse but it just isn't for me, I don't know why but I just can't get into their sound

I thought Cannibal Corpse were one of the most famous death metal bands even within the mainstream? One of the first bands to come to mind when mentioning death metal along with Deicide. How could they be underrated as a deathmetal band? my vote would go for shaarimoth, Current 11 is quite good, but barely talked about

Edit: Oh nevermind, Cannabis it is. They must see themselves as a joke band, choosing a name like that.

let me guess Tehom you think Death are the worst death metal band ever?

Quo Vadis seem to get talked about a bit so we can strike them from the list but how many of you have heard of Element, Sympathy, Alethian, Sickening Horror or Centaurus-A, oh I'll throw Miseration in there as well

Chuck Schuldiner knew his way around his instrument, therefore it was all aimless technical wankery to tehom.

Obstinate for the sake of obstinacy.

@Malfeitor: But that's the thing about Cannabis Corpse. They have songs that echo Deicide like Blame It on Bud and Chapel of Bowls and Lunatic of Pot's Creation, but they are seriously awesome. The guys know how to write kickass riffs.

@Husker: Grave doesn't get much discussion around here, but I think they are solid.

Paganizer is fucking awesome, a band you'd rarely see mentioned anywhere.
