I found Mindcrime II to be a HUGE disappointment after all the hype that surrounded it. I couldn't even walk away with a 'meh' feeling about it. I wanted it out of my house immediately, so I sold it on Ebay.

That's the thing. I expect it to be an atrocity just like I expected Mindcrime I to be a masterpiece. My expectations always cloud the perceptions of an album until I really know it well. I liked Mindcrime when I heard it but was not blown away and half the bands (including my favorite musician) cite it as a favorite of theirs. The fact that that the sequel is so maligned means to me that if it happens to just "good" I will like it a lot.

Labyrinth's 6 Days album was basically labelled a piece of shit by a lot of fans and non-fans alike and I really love that album because I expected nothing good and got something I really liked anyway. Tyranti's voice sounding better than ever did not hurt. I guess a lot of people expected more from the guitars and everything else.

You gotta understand I love pop music of a certain era and do not like monotonous speed in music mixed with predictable melodies and progressions and when bands want to focus on the songwriting a lot more and keep it mid-paced and simple, I get it. I'm investigating the rest of QR discography because as I understand it, That's what the situation was. I find more to like in a slower depeche mode song than I do in a blazing fast helloween song that came out the same year simply because the former is usually performed, produced and written better even though my tastes suggest I would like the Helloween stuff more.

A little change of the topic... I recently discovered "The Melting Clocks", a really nice album from Yossi Sassi (Orphaned Land's guitarist). I'm very fond in Orphaned Land, and I didn't know what to expect from that "adventure" of Yossi, but I was greatly surprised. It's mainly about... well, of course, guitar! But it also have the oriental feeling I was expecting for.

The artwork is also very nice...

I recently discovered 40 watt sun. (about a month and a half ago) from there a bought warnings albums. Needless to say I have been depressed.

Btw if anyone likes warning and hasn't listened to pallbearer you should do so. Very similar in sound. Although pallbearer is no where near as depressing.

Was actually just about to purchase the 40 Watt Sun album at the store the other day. Money is tight so I just purchased some excellent BM online instead. Furia from Poland is a band that I purchased two albums from and have only discovered them now. And also Kvist from Norway that have only released one album. Found Furia to be more interesting and engaging.

Yeah I can definitely imagine that. The stuff that I got are also beautifully depressing and strangely uplifting. Check out a band called Saturnus and check out their album: Veronika Decides To Die.

Listen to it first before you purchase it. It's very romantic music though.

Not a fan of Novembers Doom but I like Doom: Vs, Daylight Dies and Ghost Brigade a lot. I usually sample music unless I'm hundred percent sure that I'm going to like it. However, it is your call.

Their new album should be coming very soon! They'll be anouncing the official release date this week I think. Terrific band!

Saturnus? Cool. Can't believe I haven't heard them before. Went to thier wiki page I was expecting to see they were from Finland. I was shocked to see Denmark.
