Have any of you listened to mystic prophecy? I have ravenlord the newest album and I like it. Thrashy power metal it's not bad. Any thoughts? Be honest.

I haven't heard any Mystic Prophecy yet, but I was in my local metal shop the other day buying some power metal albums and the guy at the shop actually recommended them to me based on the stuff I was buying. Now that you've mentioned them too, I'll have to check them out....

Mystic Prophecy: I didn't find much to like when I sampled the promo from the one with the orange cover with a typical armored warrior on the cover, I liked Satanic Curses, but it sounds more like After All or something really heavy and thrashy, moreso than Iced Earth have ever been. That record spits venom and it was cool to hear it in PowM for a change.

The only record from them I have heard is Savage Souls, it's pretty good although I don't like the vocals much. Need to check out what they have done afterwards, especially since 60% of the line-up has changed since then.

I can only speak on their newest. I heard a bit of satanic curses. They recently got a new guitar player and he shreds. The new one ravenlord is a fun listen. :dio:

Ravenlord is pretty great as my review suggests. I had given up on them tbh.

I just read your review. Great review man. The only thing I would say is even the filler tracks have some high points. I agree with your review completely. The songs I have listened to off the two previous albums definately lacked bite. Hopefully the next one is good as well. But like you said, don't get your hopes up. Good shit though man.

does anyone have any recommendations on new power metal bands?? ive heard good things about pharaoh. i could use some good power metal. i liked ravenlord cause it has alot of devil and hell references. i dont care much for the fantasy themed power metal. i would love to hear some blackened power metal but i dont know if that exists. or satanic power metal. i have that satans host album "by the hands of the devil" it doesnt do it for me. maybe its the vocals. every time i put it on i feel like the singer is trying to do king diamond and failing at it horribly. i think i like the mystic prochecy album cause its not all epic vocals its mixed there are some growls and stuff in there. idk

It's not new at all, but have you heard the 2 albums by Lost Horizon? Pretty great stuff. It has the classic power metal sound, but it's not too flowery and will get you head banging for sure.

Just going back up a few posts to the Mystic Prophecy discussion.... I just listened to Mystic Prophecy's debut album "Vengeance" on youtube.

It's totally awesome. Very heavy power metal. Recommended.

Don't get your hopes up. They will take a serious nose-dive. But yeah. Some gems. For sure.

Check out the songs on YouTube from the newest album ravenlord. If they are on there check out- damned tonight, hollow, die now, ravenlord, back with the storm, eyes of the devil.

Oh and can someone tell me what the opening riff to hollow reminds me of. It sounds like something. I keep thinking message in a bottle for whatever reason. Probably way off but it sounds like something.

Just listening to the song now. I think you're right - Message in a Bottle is probably what you're thinking of, they must have been listening to The Police, hehe.

Sounds like a pretty sweet song anyway. Not quite as heavy as the stuff I heard earlier today from their debut album, but still pretty cool.
