is quite good, yes.
I'll raise you and say Lawless Darkness was better. Have you heard LD?

No. Havent been too active in pursuing new tunes lately, unfortunately.
Just haven't the time these days, and with the kids going back to school (daughter first year in high school, groan), my son's Tae Kwon Do, and everything else, it doesn't look like I'll have an abundance of it any time soon. Still, if you are rec'ing them, the least I can do is check them out. Where to start?

And your avatar is fine from my pov.

And you groaning about your daughter starting high school is adorable. I like being reminded that people are real people on here lol.

Haha, wait I actually have this.
  Fucking senility kicking in, or the drugs finally catching up... but yeah this is a great album. One of the few bands of this stripe I actually like.

yeah with how good lawless darkness and sworn to the dark were I don't know where Watain is going to go, both killer albums. Casus Luceferi is good to but I think they really peaked on Sworn to the dark and lawless darkness was a fantastic follow up.

I was just debating best Watain albums lol. Lawless Darkness had a really awesome heavy metal vibe to it that I appreciated. It was present in Sworn to the Dark to a degree, but it really came out explicitly in LD. I enjoy it.

I'm very nervous to tell the truth; high school is a big thing, right now she's still my little girl, we both love horror and are going to Monsterpalooza in October. She is into horror make-up, and is actually getting pretty good at it. She even has a few clients lines up for Halloween.

Yeah, it has a good sound to it, the production clicks.

It stands to reason that new ears to this music would not take kindly to abrasive sounds of bands such as Gorgoroth, Blasphemy, Sarcofago, or even the stylistically dark yet relatively less than chaotic acts such as Mortuary Drape or Torr. Id stay in the more melodic territory of bands such as early Ulver, Obesquiae, Cor Scorpii, Naglfar, Lord Belial, or if one is so inclined to enter the more contested realm of "post black" with the bands posted by Trapt

I never left the place.com I've always been here in spirit even if totalitarian individuals such as Zad pull the strings :P

Thanks for the advice dude, but I can pretty safely say abrasive is not a problem for me. I listen to a lot of ridiculously heavy and fast unmelodic stuff. Of course, I have no problem with melody, especially since I listen to lots of stuff outside of metal, but it's not something I necessarily require to enjoy music.

Oh, and welcome to the forum.

EDIT: oh, is that you Steve? I wondered why a first-poster would dive headlong into this conversation like that.

In the spirit of a prior individual asking a similar query, perhaps, it would serve better if you'd post bands that you enjoyed in any vein of prior recommendations so I could be of some use.

It's all in the OP.

I said what I like in metal and what I like outside of metal. Can't say what I like in terms of BM because I don't really know any BM or exactly what kind of BM I'm looking for, just yet. It's all an experiment.

There are plenty of bm bands with emphasis on heavy metal/traditional metal riffing: Agatus, Zemial, Midnight, Necromantia, Desaster, Atomizer, Destroyer 666, and of course the infamous Grand Belial's Key. All of these bands have a tendency to be slightly melodic, and in the case of Desaster and Necromantia have covered heavy metal songs. I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy Desaster, Ketzer, Nifelheim and Destroyer666 if you are an old schooler at heart

Stick around more next time, bud. Your link was appreciated by me, anyway, especially for that main, slightly spacey riff.

Btw, the Watain discussion here caused me to give Sworn to the Dark Another Listen. Better than I remembered, if slightly more traditionally heavy metal than I prefer. Still love Casus Luciferi.

Yeah, I've always just kinda liked them. Quite enjoyed Skart's track though.

Also, regarding V's mostly excellent list, the Tenebrae In Perpetuum track is a perfect representation of humble, cold, black metal done very well.

Tremendous stuff.
