Don't know yet. With all the many suggestions, I've tended not to listen to whole albums but hit up a track here, a track there, and then try a new band.

I think i'll take a few days and give some of these bands the proper attention they deserve and then see if I want to make a purchase or two.

Fair enough.

Good luck finding something that you enjoy. Always great to see anyone willing to try something new. And yeah the forum seems to be pretty fatigued these days. I'm still hoping to make a comprehensive post with a billion links on funeral doom, but I've been a bit occupied lately.

Just saw this now. You should do it, Emperor!. It'll be a different diet for a lot people. I'll get reacquainted with a few bands, too

He told me about that over a year ago, I was wondering what had come of that! Really looking forward to that too, should be very interesting to say the least.

Theatrics are nothing new, nor are they exclusive to this particular genre; I'd warrant that singing about gargling fetuses, raping dead children or even slaying dragons to win the hand of thou fairest maiden is just as much a gimmick. But whatever, I personally never really thought to much about the whole thing.

Of course, as I have stated numerous times, the donning of corpsepaint and leather does not make it BM, the music always has to stand on it's own merit.

Now as for the tracks I rec'ed, I figured that that style of traditioanl BM would best suit the tastes of one that is into thrash, since they share that same bond with punk; if you dig early Sodiom, Destruction, et al, than you might dig the rawer BM. Or maybe not.

Also, try some earlier Witchaven for a black/thrash hybrid that is actually done right.

Oh, yeah, Witchaven is a solid rec. And honestly I need to check out V's suggestions as well. A lot on that list I haven't heard. Nice to see you back, buddy, at least for a bit if that's all it is.

Edit: Off V's list, I'm only really enjoying Odal, not including the obviously familiar bands like Satyricon or Gorgoroth.

Yeah, I mentioned it again because I'll soon have time to actually complete it (September?), and I wanted to be held to it by somebody. Sorry for the long distraction...cheers.

Yeah, cool man thanks for all the recs, don't be thinking I don't appreciate it. I'm actually at work at the moment as I have been all week, so it's just hard to find time for so many suggestions. The weekend is coming up so I'll be sure to set aside several hours and give all these suggestions some proper attention.

Wilde Kraft is a class album, Odal's best, IMO.

If you like, that's cool, and if not, well, that's cool, too.

Black metal doesn't seem to click with a lot of people into death metal somehow, at least in my experience.

So, I'm taking that we failed to convince?

Meh, it's not for everyone.

Were thee any that piqued your interest at all?

mayhem- grand declaration of war.

not really traditional black metal at all, but it does have an electronica track, and it's a very varied album, full of twists and turns that makes it a thoroughly enjoyable record to listen to. Also contains one of the most eerie guitar riffs ever.

Must give this album a spin. It's a long time since I've heard it. It's rather excellent as I remember...

Umm..no, not a failure just yet. I just got distracted because I bought the new Napalm Death, remembered how much I love Grind, and spent my money on a bunch of Grind albums.....

I still intend to venture further into Black Metal and see how I go. As for anything that piqued my interest, I definitely saw some strong potential in the stuff Trapt recommended, particularly Nachtmystium. I think I like my Black Metal more on the avant-garde side.

Anyway, I'll try to get my head around it and let you know.

I'll raise you and say Lawless Darkness was better. Have you heard LD?

No. Havent been too active in pursuing new tunes lately, unfortunately.
Just haven't the time these days, and with the kids going back to school (daughter first year in high school, groan), my son's Tae Kwon Do, and everything else, it doesn't look like I'll have an abundance of it any time soon. Still, if you are rec'ing them, the least I can do is check them out. Where to start?
