I listen to a limited amount of power metal and they all tend to be mixed with other metal genres which makes them good for repeat listens band like:

Kamelot power/prog
Evergrey power/Prog
Wuthering Heights folk/power/prog
Kiuas power/prog/folk/death
Angra power/prog

I tend to get tired pretty quick of bands that are straight up power metal but i do go back to them once in a while when I'm in the mood.

I still love power metal of course, but my favorite period (around 2000) was much more enjoyable.
Too many of the established bands have changed their style (like the mentioned Sonata Arctica and Edguy), which hasn't worked, and while there are some exciting new bands (Keldian pops up in my head immediately), the overall quality of the genre is surely down.
I think there will still be plenty of bands keeping the genre going, but just like many of you, I listen to a wider range of styles now.

Sixteen. It currently is happening to me. With all genres, actually. I'm bored with music, I hope it won't last. Pray for my soul, people.

What the hell, Bruce. You need to find a girl and regain your zest for life, it seems...hmmm? I need to find a girl so I can find my zest for life! But I'm still fascinated by musique!

I don't think it's that weird. People who love music as much as we do are usually quite inquisitive people, who will naturally be drawn to other artforms as well.

Sometimes I go through periods where my love of music is temporarily put aside because I have been paying more attention to the other things that interest me....movies, comics, toy collecting....every once in a while I focus on these things and music takes a back seat. Not on purpose, it just happens that way.

Bruce, I feel confident your love for music will come back to you when the time is right.

Indeed, but that album isn't music, it's an institution. It doesn't count.

It's okay. Nothing spectacular.
I guess you have an emotional attachment to it explaining why you love it so much and why you're one of the very few to do so.

I'd reply with a LOL emoticon but your statement is just too ridiculous to be laughed at.

Besides, isn't basically everything about emotional attachment?

I'm not sure the guys from the KKK get their kicks from No Woman No Cry, though.

Fixed. But yeah, Stefan has a point too.

Potheads are slightly less annoying than KKK members. :P

I think the distaste for the subgenre stems from hacks like Manowar, Edguy, Angra, Iced Earth, Hammerfall, and Hibria releasing albums that are wholly terrible that more or less flatlines the expectations of people who expect these bands to release even half the quality of the material of even their middle era. I think that some bands such as the latest Hell, Satans Host, and perhaps even Pharoah that heaviness and great riffs are not necessarily lost in spite of the glory days of the genre being gone some bands can still carry the torch.

Have any of you listened to mystic prophecy? I have ravenlord the newest album and I like it. Thrashy power metal it's not bad. Any thoughts? Be honest.
