This is a pretty ambitious undertaking and I realize that many heads will roll, but I have to see what other opinons are on this matter. Since its hard enough to rate the top five albums just pick any five songs and list them in no particular order.
These are my top five.

-Holy Terror "Distant Calling"

-Cloven Hoof "Return of the Passover"

-Fates Warning "Exodus"

-Iron Maiden "Revelations"

-Blind Guadian "Lost in the Twilight Hall"

This is gonna be interesting, it's hard for me since i like so many bands, but i'll try even though tomorrow might change so w/e.

1. Metallica - Fade to Black (Say what you will about them, i stopped caring for them after the black album, this song made me start listening to heavier stuff, no doubt about it, it still kicks as much ass today as the first day i heard it).

2. Iced Earth - A Question of Heaven (Just a great song, Barlow's vocals are incredible).

3. Savatage - When the Crowds are Gone (Just a masterpiece, the team of Oliva/Oliva show theyre trademark sound.)

4. Iron Maiden - Powerslave (Gallowping bonanza, this is tough as i like so many Maiden tunes, but the vocals and guitar work in this one are awesome.)

5. Dokken - Kiss of Death (Ahh yes they might of been a hairband, but theyre music wasn't, one of my all time fav guitar players George Lynch just rips it in this song, the concert version is just insane).

k so thats it, but im sure i can name a kazillion more, but those are the ones that come to mind and have more meaning to me :P

4) Iced Earth- "1776"

Dokken - Kiss of Death-The best Dokken song for me

Black Sabbath- Mob rules - Turn Up the Night
BLACK SABBATH - Paranoid- the whole album

Blind Guardian- "Mirror Mirror" - the live version , the last song on the dvd.

Rainbow - Stargazer, "The Gates of Babylon" and "Lady of the Lake".

STRATOVARIUS - Visions - the whole album

Thats about 20 songs

This should be a lot easier to do if done by style. Since it was posted in the heavy, power, prog forum I'll stick to those type of songs, for the most part anyway.

No particular order

Children Of Bodom - Towards Dead End : simple choice, my favorite song from my favorite CD. The main reason I put this above other Bodom songs on Hatebreeder is the keyboard+guitar interplay near the end of the song. That 30-40 seconds of music completely changed my view on Metal. It's pretty much when I realized how awful mallcore was and how great true Metal could actually be. It blows my mind each time I listen to it.

Persuader - The Hunter : the song itself is awesome but what takes the cake is the last few minutes where they play the most awesome and catchy lead. Everything leading up to that moment (the verses, the chorus, the acoustic break) perfectly sets the tone to be completely awed by the lead for a solid minute and 30 seconds. The only othe lead in that style that comes close is the one in Stand Ablaze.

Lost Horizon - Sworn In The Metal Wind : Well, everything about this song is amazing. What makes it extra special are the lyrics and how Hieman does two characters in the song. The one character who is all depressed and down-and-out due to a break-up, and then his Metal friend that tells him to stop being such a fucking loser because you're METAL NOT SOME ASS KISSING WHORE! Oh yeah, the lead is smoking in that song as well.

Borknagar - Colossus : this song is the main reason why I don't know if I'll ever like Vintersorg in Borknagar. Nobody can pull off the sound and atmosphere of the vocals created by Vortex on this track. It's one of the most unique sounding songs I think I've ever heard and the way the guitar melodies interact with the keyboards, all with this kind of dreamy-mid-paced type of rhythm just comes together in a way that few bands can match.

Wuthering Heights - Longing For The Woods Part 1 : the way they combine power, prog, and folk metal in this song is amazing. Very epic and especially deep with a ton of hidden subtleties. The more I listen to this song the more I'm amazed by it as I find myself liking new things about it every time.

By the way, this list would probably change on a daily basis hehe.

I was just listening to the live version of Mirror Mirror... yeah it's awesome. BG is a band who sounds even better live. Great choice.

Iron Maiden - Revelations
Manowar - Return of the Warlord
Judas Priest - Touch of Evil
Metallica - Master of Puppets
Queensrÿche - Empire

and i'll think I'll stop it here since this thread makes no fucking sense after all ! it's just impossible to pick your 5 fav' metal songs ! :?
