Why so bitter? Oh yeah, Spain beat Portugal yet again. Looks like your collection of Brazilians and Cape Verdeans was not enough yet again.

Seriously, Casillas is a class act and nothing he has ever done gives reason to be suspicious of it. Italy is a great team with a great history. Casillas knew that and didn't think they should be embarassed any longer. He knows many of them as well so it was probably also because he knows many of them, particularly Buffon.

Get over it bitter Portuguese man. You are really just a renegade Gallego.

Funny, both my parents are Gallegos.

Anyway, Robin van Persie announced today he won't be a Gunner next season. Manchester Shitty wants him.

My mother is Gallega and my father is Cantabro. In any case, the Portuguese, at least in the north, are all Gallegos, they just refuse to admit it.

where are you during the 2 years between major international competitions?

regarding the Brazilians and Cape Verdians - Pepe came to Portugal at the age of 18, Rolando was 14 and Nani wasn't even 10. their first real taste of football was in Portugal. i'm not in favour of having 30 year-olds like Liedson in our team, but the 3 "foreigners" in the squad are all Portuguese in my book. and wasn't a certain Brazilian called Marcos Senna a part of the Euro 2008-winning squad?

i like Casillas. i think Spain is the best team in the world both as a unit and on a player-by-player basis, save perhaps on the flanks. but asking the ref to stop a game a minute from the end is, like, meh. it wasn't going to change anything. it has nothing to do with being suspicious, i am sure he had only the best intentions, but the way he went about following through was rather silly. he could have asked his team to tone it down, and it would have been far more discrete as well. but no, let's all suck Spain's dick and forget how often and how close they came to defeat in this competition.

as for the political or whatever crap you wrote at the end, i'll just ignore that :)

I don't need a win to be proud of my team. You're invisible for anything but the international tournaments, and only then you only show up when Spain are doing well. Never mind that they struggled against Italy in their first game. What you look like, and what I expect you are, is a glory hunting plastic who knows fuck-all about the beautiful game. It's even more irritating than when Italians were claiming to be the best in the world because their team was really good at parking the bus. Fuck off.

I didn't bother reading most of what you said. I did notice the bit about being absent except for international competitions. I follow my Racing de Santander as often as I can, but working full time and living in the states makes it difficult to follow every game. If that doesn't address your concern and you are only referring to my not posting on this thread with the same frequency as you, all I can say is I have more important things to do. That I have more time to focus on this petty bullshit during the summer is only because I have more free time. You don't seem to have a lack of it. So to address your point, my answer in a nut shell would be "who gives a shit?"

I'm sorry, but as far as I'm concerned, your comment came off as extremely bitter and nothing you have said has changed that. And as far as my political comments, there is nothing political about it. Portugal was part of the Kingdom of Galicia, populated by the same group of Roman Catholics that later intermarried with the Sueves and then Visigoths. The simple fact remains that Galicia and Gallegos came first. The Portuguese are Gallegos that are ruled by a different regime. Nothing political about that. It's just historical fact.

Well, sorry. Bad times for Racing de Santander, in second league and with a lot of financial troubles.

I'm not really a spanish selection fanboy, because I'm more catalonian than spanish. I'm a Barça fanboy. And a Real Madrid hater. When spainsh selection was full of Real Madrid players, I didn't follow the national team. But when the team members are Xavi, Iniesta, Pique, Busquets, Pedro, Cesc, Alba, Villa or Pujol, and plays (more of less) like Barça does, well, I'm a Spain supporter.

i didn't Spain weren't the best. i said that asking the ref to end a game early out of pity for your opponents isn't that nice, and may even be construed as disrespectful, even if unintentionally so. i doubt any of the Italians wanted it to end early.

and you still sound like an adepto de ocasião to me. which is fine, just don't go mouthing off when you're winning only to not say a word at any other time.

I support Real Madrid for political reasons. I don't like that Barca is a vehicle for catalan separatism, that being said, I prefer Barca's players and Barca's coach. Real has too much of a portuguese influence and Mourinho I feel is trying to damage the friendship between Xavi and Casillas, and will certainly try and undermine National team unity.

But la selecion is what it is because of barca's attack, and because of Madrid's defense. They contribute equally so I can't say who contributes more. But they are remarkable in that they can put aside their club disputes when it comes to country.

What's wrong with Catalan separatism? As far as Barca's concerned, they should take second best to Atletico Bilbao for Catalans. Or is that Basque? I get the two confused.

I'm all for regional distinctiveness (my mother is Gallega and my father is Montanes and I have a number of basque cousins), but it's one thing to be proud of your region, it's another to say that you are so different from everyone around you that you should be your own country. Unfortunately for the catalan people, they are Spanish whether they want to be or not, the same way the basques and gallegos are. Not only do they share the same blood as the rest of Spain, but so many people that are not Catalan live in Cataluna that it would create a logistical nightmare if Cataluna became its own country. They would either have to expatriate all Spanish nationals in the area or they would have to move out. Either way, it's either unfair or impossible.

You show up only to gloat, that is the problem. You pulled the same hypernationalist shit here during the World Cup.

Otherwise I've never thought you were a bad poster, in fact, I admire your commitment to thrash.

I wasn't aware there was a minimum post requirement to be entitled to voice an opinion on the thread. My mistake, for the next world cup, I will make sure I post every single day in this thread so that any comments I make about the Spanish national team are supported with proper background information so that when they inevitably win no one can point to the minimum post requirement in an attempt to discredit a Championship winning Spanish team.

I hope that addresses your concern. Next time I will gloat so you aren't wrong.

That's ridiculous. How do they not have a choice in the matter? How can they not decide if they want to be Spanish or not? Nationality doesn't come down to blood, not anymore. The Catalans have every right to national self-determination.
