Prometheus - awesome. Not as good as Alien or Aliens, but still very good. Go in expecting something equivalent to Alien 4 and you'll have a blast (it's better than that!).

John Carter - 8/10. Actually really enjoyed it. Nice storyline.

I thought it was a cool movie too, it doesn't deserve the bashing it has received via the media and reviewers.

I thought it was pretty cliche and some sections dragged. 3/5.

Considering when it was written I might venture that more recent sci/fi space adventures are the real cliche.

I watched Repo! The Genetic Opera and found it delightfully odd. It's really strange watching people dance and sing about repossessing human organs from those who stop making payments on their surgeries. Rather twisted. However, I never tire of looking at and listening to Sarah Brightman.

The Raid: Redemption - 9/10

But for a few plot holes this is the best martial arts movies I've ever seen. Nail biting, brutal action scenes.

Watched 28 Weeks Later again last night. Still good stuff, nice to see Jez Renner, Idris Elba and her out of Damages in little roles, although how the fuck Robert Carlyle keeps showing up...

Two movies I am looking forward to see for this summer: The Dark Knight Rises and The Bourne Legacy.

The Seduction of Dr. Lewis - Funny, cute, sweet, predictable. Brunette was purty.

Bon Cop, Bad Cop - haha, Canada. Swearing, gore.

The Godfather was on last night. Pacino's transition into a shark-eyed psychopath is as gripping as ever.

Prometheus - A complete waste of money. (And I had no idea what the movie was about before going)

Oh shit. It's about to hit the fan isn't it? Somebody is bound to pounce?

The Dictator - hilarious in an incredibly stupid kind of way. Most people here won't like it, but if you take your panties off and shut your brain off it's quite good.

And Bruce, you so crazy.

The best part being some people comparing it to 2001. I'd have more respect for an excrement-eating neo-nazi than for somebody who'd say to my face that Prometheus matches 2001.
Or even the Alien trilogy (trilogy yes, the 4th one never happened.)

Now, to be fair, Prometheus isn't that bad. I'd give it a 60/100. (Mild spoilers below, don't read.) Perhaps I would have liked it better had I known it was just an Alien prequel before the last scene. Besides, I saw it in a crappy 3D theatre, it ruined the whole thing. Hardly noticed the 3D at all, but the fucking glasses and the headache I noticed quite a bit.

I like the idea of it being a prequel as well as a start for a new saga branching away from the Alien movies though. The next one could be interesting. I want my answers (which was the whole point of this one I suppose: making people want to know more...)

I can think of only one movie in that genre that matches up to 2001, and that movie was Tarkovsky's Solaris.

saw Prometheus, hated it. every character is a complete fucking idiot.

- why is there a MALE med-pod in Charlize Theron's room? and while they are rare, surely a company that can blow a trillion dollars on a ship that is probably one of a kind can afford to pack two of them!
- the fucking geologist. so he's a fucking hardass when the biologist prick comes to talk to him, talking like a fucking mercenary or some shit, and then he's a cowardly geologist? and then, after freaking out by the door, he's almost happily playing with the snake alien thing.
- THE FUCKING SCIENTISTS!!! they take off their masks and go and fucking touch everything! WHAT THE FUCK?! who in their right minds would ever fucking act like that on a fucking alien planet?!
- seriously, why is no one acting scared or at least cautious?
- how do the geologist and the biologist get lost when most of the cave is already mapped? and why would they choose to stay in the creepy room, of all places? and don't say it was because they were lost and hadn't seen what was beyond the door before, the fucking alien corpse was still there by the door.
- why would Mr. Weyland's motivations be contrary to the mission? everyone could get their answers.
- while i can maybe see the point in infecting Holloway and impregnating his girlfriend, it could all be done SAFELY back home (after making sure that alien shit won't kill y- oh wait), or at least they could've knocked her out as soon as they were sure she was pregnant.
- scottish scientist woman: what the fuck? she doesn't know anything about the mission and suddenly she's siding with the company like it's no big deal?
- why isn't anyone surprised at the alien hologram shit? and i loved it, "please tell me you can read that" and the robot says he probably can and then everyone promptly forgets about it and goes into the MYSTERIOUS ROOM WHERE AN ALIEN GOT HIS HEAD CUT OFF.
- why not let us know what David told the alien?

seriously, terrible movie. visually appealing, but that's about it.

i haven't seen and do not care to see any of the Alien movies, although i did read the plots on Wikipedia because i have way too much time on my hands.

I liked Prometheus but it's definitely one of those situations where I choose to accept the flaws to enjoy what's good. Like Dune, I love that movie but it's a mess. I'm a sucker for epic Sci-Fi. But yeah the motivations of some characters were confusing and some of them lacked any common damn sense.

Azrael:
The med-pod was male because it was actually intended for Mr Weyland. And that's the only one of your questions I can properly answer :D

yeah, that's what we concluded when talking last night.

but still they could have taken 2 along, considering how fucking useful they are.

it is a very poorly written film.
