First off, I cheated a little bit- I went in to the editor and tweaked with my transfer budget so I could actually sign some players.

You CHEATED. Worse: you cheated so you could buy BALOTELLI. Who in the world would do such a thing? You would.

You're a degenerated little man.

Okay, seriously, you're really making me want to give FM2012 and Aberdeen a shot (without editing stuff like you did). You seem to have an above decent group, I assume you win the national title every year? (what year is it currently in your game?) Now you just have to save up cash and improve your squad, and grab the CL.

On tactics, I see you're also an adept of the 4-2-2-2 (me too). I had very good results in FM2010 (or 2009, don't remember) with two fast and technically (very) good side backs able too outpace people and cross like madmen, a solid Def midfielder, a playmaker just by his side strong enough for defensive duties, an offensive mid on both sides (left foot on the left, right on the right), a ST (technique, shooting, pace, acceleration, finition) and a center forward used as an assist-man (a tall guy good in jumping, heading, passing, strength at the very least).

I don't know how much the game has changed since then, probably (hopefully) a lot. But with this tactique (and a lot of tweaks in the tactics screen and also a lot of patience to scout a huge load of players) I was able to win three CLs in a row with a shitty French club originally in the 3rd division. In a decade, without cheating.

What I like the most in this game though is the career mode. To start from scratch with a crappy, obscure and unmanageable team nobody knows about, and end up Real Madrid's coach 25 years later. Lots of fun... I see FM2012 is 18 euros on amazon, how tempting... :)

Aberdeen would be great fun, and after I've gotten to grips with FM2012 with MONEY, I'll take the Dons again as they are. Aberdeen are a decent side, the main problem is the absence of someone to make plays for Vernon or Chalali to score on. Chris Maguire was decent enough with crossing, but he's gone now. Aberdeen's main strengths lie in its youth squad- I just noticed today: I'm in my second season, won the triple last season, made the playoffs in the Champions League this season, and the youth team that i've been paying no attention to whatsoever are actually winning some international U21 competition. Fuck knows how.

My squad, however, are ENTIRELY new signings, from Celtic, Rangers, and the American and Swiss national teams (btw, I've gotten my Swiss players so much better that in game the national squad has risen up to 9th in the world rankings). Not a single one of those players is originally Aberdeen. If you take Aberdeen, you'll have the same problems the team has had IRL this season- very good defense, but we just can't score. Kari Arnason and Gavin Rae are a great midfield, and Rory McArdle and Youl Mawene make a solid defense line, but although Vernon has the ability to score, there's no one to get the ball to him. Keep an eye out on the youngsters- especially Peter Pawlett and Fraser Fyvie, they can be excellent wingers. You'll have a new Nigerian to replace Aluko, name's Danny Uchechi. We never really saw him in action IRL, but he's got good potential as an SPL attacking midfielder. Get him tutored by Russell Anderson maybe, or another senior player. Also, Ryan Jack is really not a bad player. If you can afford it, loan out Clark Robertson to an npower league or First division team and he should grow nicely. Sell Andrew Considine, he'll always be shite.

As for signings, see if Leigh Griffiths is available. Used to play for Dundee City (Scottish First Division) and was a free transfer on 2011, should now be on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, but if you can get him, he'll start knocking them in for fun. Marius Zaliukas will be hard to sign, as he's the Hearts captain, but if you can get him you've got a rock-solid defender with good motivational skills as well.

The main strength of Aberdeen, though, is the youth squad. Hire some continental scouts (I got Stephan Chapuisat, how awesome is that :P) and look at Switzerland (Basel and Young Boys have some ace players) and Germany (lots of young Turks not getting enough play time there). See if you can sign Wotherspoon (I think that's his name) from Hibernian.

That's all I can think of for now. You might need to not do too well for a few seasons before it starts paying off. Also, your assistant manager will recommend the usual shitty 442. Fuck him. But let him take team talks, if you're not an experienced manager, the Aberdeen squad will remember when they had Fergie and they'll make snide comments about your shit speaking to the media.

Also, I cheated so I could buy players, Balotelli was an accident because my chairman decided to make us a feeder club to Man City and they wanted me to sign him. Cost me 104m pounds, but I've more than made up for it in televised games, shirt sales and CL earnings. So fuck you. Although James McFadden, the old fart, still scores more goals than Balotelli. One of them was an amazing bicycle kick from a Barnetta cross- fucking timeless.

104M pounds for Moronelli ? A wonder your chairman wasn't lynched by the fans. He sure deserves it.

I think I'm going to learn to play nowadays FM with an easier club than Aberdeen first. I like the way you play the game though (Scottish/Swiss-centered recruits/staff, etc.) Nice touch, adds a lot to the gameplay. Probably will do something of the sort in my games.

edit: Chapuisat :dio:

Eh, I've got enough money, and a star sale like that boosts the clubs reputation. As a result, I got my facility upgrade request and stadium expansion request accepted, which is more income in the long term. I've had 50 unbeaten games in the SPL and am selling out stadiums like mad. Balotelli doesn't even need to be played a lot, he's just there for the fame of it.

I take back what I said about 442- use it against teams who pile in players upfield and leave the midfield defence area open. 4-1 against Leverkusen at 51 minutes, braces by Derdiyok and Barnetta.

EDIT: Holy shit. Final score 6-1. Penalty for Leverkusen, saved by Benaglio; penalty for Aberdeen, saved by Leno. 4 goals by Derdiyok and two by Barnetta. Qualified from CL group stages in 1st place with 17 goals scored and 8 conceded. Boom.

Take some screenshots if you ever win the CL :)

I tried the demo of FM2012 and I don't think I'm going to play it after all (veteran syndrome, I've overplayed the series of CMs/FMs, they're not fun to me anymore. Or maybe I'm just too old.)

Champ Man 2001/2002 is an absolute classic. it's the one with Tsigalko, Tó Madeira, Aghahowa, Okoronwko, Kallstrom, Chiotis... good times.

i completely demolished that game with PSV Eindhoven.

Tsigalko is legendary, and Aghahowa, Okoronwko, Kallstrom were awesome... I was playing a 2-6-2 with AS Roma, won everything imaginable 10 times. That game was broken as hell, but a megaton of fun.

Oh come on, we could have traded wonderkids and signing catches!

Adili Endogan and Valentin Stocker are two relatively cheap players that perform very well and are quite loyal...

No. Sorry but no way, I'm not buying it. QPR let the match go. What happened is simply impossible.

This sport is plagued with corruption.

Roma was the best team in the game. Totti, Batistuta, Walter Samuel, Montella, Tommasi... you just couldn't beat them. i remember once i beat them with Barcelona 3-0 at Camp Nou, and the fuckers beat me 4-0 in the return leg

Is this Balotelli trying to reason him when he goes out? Now I've seen everything.

edit: judging by the comments, it seems this is him indeed. Ha! The lols.

To be fair, once he thought he'd been unfairly red carded, he was sacrificing himself (getting further bans) to try and get some Man City players carded as well. Good captain, like.
