Steel Attack's first album "Where Mankind Fails" is a great example of power/speed metal that is lacks any hint of the floweriness of Rhapsody or Edguy, et al. The riffs are super heavy and technical, and the vocalist gives off a definite Manowar vibe. It is essentially power metal for tough guys. It's probably one of the best examples of power metal done right.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned Primal Fear, Iron Savior, Mystic Prophecy, Rage, Gamma Ray and Helloween. They are the power metal headliners...

I have them on my Zune great band, the album is a great mixture of speed, good vocals, and catchy riffs. I forgot to add Domine another great Italian power metal band, soaring epic vocals though the riffs are sometimes hit or miss.

Great list some of those cross over and are more heavy metal in my opinion, how is that scanner compared to Ball of the damned?

Hypertrace is the best Scanner imo.

Hypertrace is one of the best pm albums ever, too bad this band never got the recognition it deserves.

A few albums of bands that weren't mentioned but I think they should be:

Liege Lord - Master Control
Cage - Hell Destroyer
Attacker - Battle at Helm's Deep
Lethal - Programmed
Paragon - Forgotten Prophecies
Morgana Lefay - Maleficium
Nevermore - Dreaming Neon Black
Rebellion - Sagas of Iceland
Metal Church - Hanging in the balance
Demons & Wizards - s/t
Meanstreak - Roadkill
Queensryche - The warning

...I actually wanted to open a thread like this myself, but I guess I would take a ride on this one.

I see that almost every prominent band of every heavy\power subgenre was mentioned, so I'll be a bit more specific, hopefully you'll be able to help me.

I really like Rhapsody (Power of the Dragonflame, Dawn of Victory) and Dark Moor (Dark Moor, Tarot).
I'm looking for bands of THIS type of power metal.
I really don't like music the type of Manowar, Blind Guardian, Helloween, Iced Earth, Scanner, Stratovarius...and anything else that is too classic.

...any ideas?

Yes, die.

Or, if this isn't an option, you can always try:
Heavenly - Dust to Dust
Thy Majestie - Jeanne d'Arc
Freedom Call - Eternity
Pathfinder - Beyond the Space, Beyond the Time

EDIT: misspelled Thy Majestie, fixed.

I've misspelled it, it's Thy Majestie actually. An Italian band, and a pretty good one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2D6zXunqDeM

Quote:
“I am the Virgin of France”, she said bearing the flag
“English intruder your time near the end, so choose: give up or be dead!”
“Friends up! Up to the battle!” she said inciting her troops,
The Lord has sentenced the English invader,
So put your hands on thy swords and follow me!”

Ah, every time I hear this I feel the urge to kick Zad's butt. :dio:

NO LO VERAN CAEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER :dio:

edit: Oh and Dragonland. Their two last albums are great.

edit 2: And Dragonforce, perhaps.

...

edit 3: Anything with "dragon" in the band name, really.
