I think it's their worst to date.

Even if it was that still wouldn't be too bad. :P I've given it a few listens and I'm definitely enjoying it but there do seem to be two or three skippable tracks (maybe three and a half counting the poem in Song of Myself). Strangely enough, I can't seem get to enough of Turn Loose The Mermaids. Not sure why I find that strange....maybe because of the title or that it's one of the slower songs on the album but still a great song.

I think too. But as Metastable To Chaos said, being their worst doesn`t mean it`s bad . Definitely their most poppy and non metal release, but there`s no way I could quote it below 7.5. Like I said in one of my former posts, Imaginaerum is well played, slightly overproduced ( they have overdone it with theatrical crap ) but catchy and fun to listen.

Agreed. Their worst, but still very good.

And I don't think they overdid the theatrical stuff, as that was exactly the goal. But yeah, I think it would have been better with a bit less theatrical/symphonic/orchestral crap and a bit more metal.

Armed with the knowledge that this album was also serving as the score for the movie my expectations were different than they normally would be for the average Nightwish release. Therefore, I feel it's a great album for what it is and I wouldn't categorize this as their worst work. I really enjoy the emphasis on the orchestration and choirs.

As a massive Nightwish fan, how disappointed are you with this album, Clint

I can't imagine him having crazy high expectations considering he's not a fan of Anette to begin with.

I know he not a fan of Anette...but I want to know what he really feels before I get to read about it from his review, lol

I've written a full review for MCDR (as opposed to a one-line comment), and I'll plug the link in here when it's published.

I wouldn't argue with that score. It's a good album. I'd say really good, actually; but it is a very different kind of album.

We probably shouldn't compare it to their other albums, but it's hard not to.

I only really don't like Scaretale and Song of Myself. The rest is really good IMO. Though I agree with Clint's review in that I wish there were more faster songs. The album can drag on. It's my second least favorite Nightwish album. So sure I am disappointed but I still really like it.
