What are some bands that sound like Blind Guardian but are actually good? Turns out my 14yo niece is totally into them and Dragonforce and I apparently had nothing to offer her in terms of suggestion. Halford's vocals were too high pitched in Exciter and she isn't into harsh vocals. I totally mocked her for being into power metal but it's better than the fucking Jonas Brothers or some bullshit like that.

Top notch drumming and middle range vocals would be ace.

Savage Circus sounds almost exactly like Blind Guardian .. I dig 'em. Might just piss her off they are copycats or something.

Yeah, Savage Circus, Persuader, and Iron Savior come to mind.

Demons & Wizards? Hansi on vocals should help. If she likes it, Iced Earth should be an easy sell...

Edguy, Avantasia, Lost Horizon are all good picks in the same vein.

Persuader and Savage Circus are basically Blind Guardian clones.

14 yo into power metal is pretty damn good taste.

Anyway, not exactly like Blind Guardian, but, Anubis Gate because Anubis Gate is awesome!

I would recommend Solar Fragment "In Our Hands". This is pretty much straighfoward Guardian worship, and the singer sounds like Hansi's twin.

+1.
Anyway, what era of Blind Guardian does she like? All of them? But yeah, as others said, Savage Circus, especially their debut which I adore entirely, and Persuader.

Buy her Savage Circus - Dreamland Manor for christmas, and she'll name you her FUF (favorite uncle forever).

Why would anyone mock a fan of older Blind Guardian? Imaginations from the other side and Battalions of fear rank among some of the most metal albums imaginable, I hate most power metal but those albums are undeniably fucking great.

I concur, but most of the rest is great too. I could do without A Night at the Opera (save And then there was silence) and A Twist in the Myth, but even those are decent IMO.

Guardian still has to release a crappy album, and they have been there for more than 20 years now. This is damn rare, they are not to be mocked. When I was 14 (in 1996) I was listening to The Smashing Pumpkins, The Offspring and The Presidents of the USA. BG had released Battalions of Fear (1988), Follow the Blind (1989), Tales from the Twilight World (1990), Somewhere Far Beyond (1992), and Imaginations from the Other Side (1995) at the time. Five jewels I wasn't aware of.

So your niece über alles, Trapt.

(Besides, as MetalNESS said, one shouldn't mock people for their music taste. Power metal is damn fun to listen to, be it every day or only once in a while. And by that logic, she could very well mock you for listening to the shitfests Converge and Protest the Hero are. (:P) )

I don't listen to much PM at all. The most PM I have listened to was 10 years ago listening to some Falconer which lasted about a month. Although as you have seen in the "recent purchases thread" I have gained a new love for BG. I mean I have always liked them but they're one of the few bands I can tolerate in the PM world. Anubis Gate, too. The majesty, the rich tone and colour in BG's music is really untouchable. As for recommendations there is nothing that I can mention that others haven't already. Oh, and, don't mock your niece dude! I wish the people around me were interested in at least PM! Actually my mom loves Blind Guardian and Iron Maiden and anything with clean vocals filled with melody. So that's very cool.

Don't take it the wrong way, but I like your mom.

My mom digs TSO but not Savatage. She's a poser.

I second recommendations of Persuader, Savage Circus and Demons & Wizards. Dark Empire's first album would fit in (mainly because it's the same vocalist from Persuader and Savage Circus). I also find strong influences of BG in Manticora.

Demons & Wizards are definitely the best of this bunch and they should be the main recommendation for your niece.
