So how would you expand your collection? What direction would it take in terms of genre? What are those genres that you haven't liked in the past, but now find interesting and are willing to purchase albums from? One example is that I have come to appreciate and like the more simple approaches to Metal and Rock in general, without detaching from all other complex forms. Is it that you will expand on your collection by simply specializing in one genre, or do you always have a diversified notion of having different genres of music in your collection?

I have too many metal albums compared to everything else in general and I'd rather have a much more well-rounded collection. It's just that great stuff keeps coming out and I can't buy it all when I also have a large amount of catching up to do.

If only I started my collection earlier in my life.

I started out liking 80's and early 90's stuff such as Metallica, Slayer, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Danzig, Etc...... Then I went into Death Metal Mainly... In recent years , especially lately, I have delved into Black Metal and have found so many bands I would have never appreciated in prior years....Lately I have been adding a lot of Burzum and Drudkh to my collection.. Always open minded though and trying to find out about any metal band in any genre of metal to add and expand my collection... Cool post Dude!

I don't have any preference when it comes to genres of metal/rock. I like all of them equally. My tastes haven't changed since I started to listen to metal. There's no genre that I liked before and don't like now or didn't like before and like now. My focus is slowly shifting from searching for albums rather than bands. Earlier, I used to focus on collecting an entire discography of a band, but now I'd rather select a few albums after reading about them from different sources. As far as adding to my collection, I am missing a lot of non metal stuff. Need to add select albums from bands like Status Quo, Journey, Rush, King's X etc. Also, my Black and Doom metal collection isn't that great. Need to get a few of those too.

CD's aren't a very appealing thing to collect, IMO. Having a CD case in my hand doesn't give me any satisfaction, really...also, I never had a good stereo setup, so I was basically just ripping CD's on to my computer and putting them on my iPod anyways. I might start to buy again if I get a good stereo, although probably only my favorite albums, but I think it's more probable that I'll start buying vinyl because the physical object itself is much more appealing to me.

I see. To each their own. I personally think CD's are as much valuable as Vinyls are... Yes... Maybe Vinyls have more appeal to them as to their size and also sound quality but it does not take away in any shape or form, the value of a CD. Having a worthwhile Vinyl player with everything included is not a small cost. Once I asked about gathering a decent Vinyl player and its equipment was at least 900-1000 bucks, just for a decent set. Right now I have great headphones and a home theater system which is very good in my opinion.

I've been gathering everything from underground stuff off of distros like Antitheist, NWN, and Hell's headbanger's to buying classic albums off of Amazon as of late. I tend to purchase a lot after sampling from Youtube, though as of late I want to get some of the classics out of my way. Some of the albums missing from my grasp are:

Varathron-His majesty at the swamp
Invocator-Weave the Apocalypse
Moonspell-Wolves from the fog/Goat on fire
Septicflesh-Esoptron
Blasphemy-Fallen angel of doom
Morpheus Descends-Rituals of infinity
Pyrexia-Sermon of Mockery
Blut Aus Nord-All of their earlier work 1st pressing
Tiamat-Sumerian Cry
Impiety-Asateerul Awaleen (Fucked up not getting it when I had the chance)
Phlebotomized-Immense, intense, suspense,

and of course many more.

I saw it for about 40 or so American dollars vs euro on Ebay.couk or something like that, I can't remember the site but it was like Ebay's take on Amazon. Its not really essential at least compared to Ophidian wheel or Mystic places of the dawn, but your average 'older' Septic flesh album is worth far more than any modern death metal album.
