I'm listening to it now.....kinda mixed reaction.

It's not as good as all the hype's been saying.

It's extremely over-produced, but I guess we all knew that before it came out.

I was expecting another epic song like The Poet And The Pendulum with Song Of Myself, but its 7 minutes of great metal, followed by 6 minutes of spoken word...not impressed there.

So far, Scaretale is the best track...Last Ride Of The Day is good, Storytime is good, while there are a fair few slow ballads...Slow Love Slow, Turn Loose The Mermaids and The Crow, The Owl and The Dove. If you're into ballads, then this shouldn't bother you.

It just might be more disappointing than excellent right now

More listening and it's getting a tad better...

Parts of Ghost River annoy me, but the ballad The Crow, The Owl and The Dove is pretty good.

I dont get what is so good about Slow Love Slow, its quite boring, but thats just my opinion.

Not sold on Rest Calm, while Turn Loose The Mermaids is easily skippable.

The best 3 is still Scaretale, Last Ride Of The Day and Storytime.

When I first discovered Nightwish many years ago I absolutely loved them. I continued to love them with the change in vocalists, with DPP actually becoming my favorite Nightwish album. I just feel so cheated with this one I cant even listen to it anymore. Disjointed and pretentious! This is no longer metal, just pretentious bullshit.
Ok, some of the songs are good, the pretentious stuff just spoils it...

Anyone who expected a different kind of album should stab themselves in the pee-hole. We've known for like two years that this album was going to be this way.

It's only pretentious if you expected something different.

After 4 -5 spins I have a feeling Imaginaerum is not as strog as the Dark Passion Play. But then again, I found DPS very boring after couple of listens so I will not rush to conclusions.
And again I find the second half a tad better.

I couldn`t agree with you more on that cause I too expected this to be in vein of The Poet but song is only 7 minutes long and not so epic.
Balalds are good but I just don`t understand Slow, Slow, I`m not saying that I don`t like it, it`s just strange, probably the weirdest song they ever recorded.
Ghost River is cool, I Want my Tears back is catchy but the folky part is the same as in Last Of The Wilds from DPP. And is it just me or one part of the song sound like Maiden`s Dance Of The Dead.

Overall good, fun and well played album with Last Ride Of The Day being my favourite so far.

Killer song... too bad the vocals suck. Tarja would've been perfect for this.

No, really, no. I can't believe some people are STILL insisting that the band declined without Tarja.

No, they did not decline. they were crap from the very beginning.

Wow, new Nightwish album is more talked about than the new Riot album. Says something about the site. Not that it's wrong of people to like Nightwish

It actually IS very wrong.

I like a lot of this it's quite a combo but still very Nightwish like, but if there was one thing that could be done better it's some of the guitar work. Yes it does the job and while there are likeable parts others are so familiar that being more adventurous wouldn't have hurt.

Why is there a scud and a stub. So confusing. I hate both of them, but I should only hate one.

It's good but as Mr McDinglenuts it's a bit different for Nightwish. I like pretty much every songs except for parts of Storytime and Last Ride Of The Day where Annette goes into nasal chipmunk mode and it just annoy me.

It's nothing spectacular but good for what it is. I still think the new Epica , who imho has been a superior band to Nightwish for a while now, will wipe this though

Re-listening to it right now. It has awesome moments, really. Not many, but still.

Actually, my least favourite track is the s/t track, the last one. It's probably the score for the movie's end credits (an instru medley of main melodies from every other songs), unnecessary to me. Not a bad way to end the album/movie, but a skippable track.

I counted 5 good/great songs out of 10 (excluding the intro and the 2 instrumentals)...

The album just became available via iTunes. I just downloaded it and have begun giving it a first listen.
