Wow, new Nightwish album is more talked about than the new Riot album. Says something about the site. Not that it's wrong of people to like Nightwish, but it definitely explains why I clash with so many of you on metal tastes. Guess I'll be going now.

Your reply to this thread gave it 20 replies, same as the Riot thread. My post now replying gives it 21.

I think Annette's voice is better than Tarja's. Has more emotion and colour than that cold, monochrome operatic trill.

Exactly. Tarja bores me to death.

Not a chance.

I like Annette, but she's a bubblegum pop singer when you get right down to it. I still dig Nightwish, and she and Tarja are probably too different from each other that we shouldn't even compare, but there's no way Annette sings with more emotion. And she definitely doesn't even come close to the power of Tarja's vocals.

I still love Nightwish, though, but I do wish they'd gotten someone like Floor Jansen to replace Tarja.

I listened to it on very low volume last night...and wasn't blown away. I have to really crank it for it to properly sink in. I enjoyed it, you know, but nothing really hit me like their previously albums do.

New Terrorizer gives it 5/5 and album of the month ("Nightwish's finest hour in all regards").

*strokes chin*

I may be quite good, deserving of that score. Until I listen again, though, I'm inclined to say it's also quite different for Nightwish. A mix of heavy and melodic stuff, like previous albums, but this one has a very theatrical kind of flare, far more than other albums. Of course, that was obviously the point with this one.

Majority of people on the NW forums seem to be very happy with it. Now before we throw out accusations of fanboy/girlism, the impression I'm getting is that those same people weren't too crazy about DPP so take that for whatever it's worth.

For those who still buy music, I'd suggest signing up for Amazon Prime. The free shipping rules! It's fantastic for buying imports. Yeah, they're still pricey, but you're saving like $10 in S&H costs.

Of course, this album is currently $40.

Ah, see, I loved that one. Sultry, jazzy, really good tune. But yeah, very different for them.

I liked it too. I felt like "ah nice, something different and unexpected", a bit like how I felt when first heard Devin Townsend's Trainfire (although I like Trainfire better). Honestly I'd rather listen to Anette as a smooth jazz singer than a power/symphonic/gothic metal one.

Slow, Love, Slow is a great song.

I'm just into I Want My Tears Back so far, but loving it.

Don't like Scaretale or Song of Myself. The rest is quite good. Listened to it 4 times so far and Im thinking I like Dark Passion Play more. Maybe when I see the movie I will come to appreciate some of the songs more.

Been reading mixed comments on this one, haven't had a chance to listen to it all but like it so far.
