I wasn't trying to be specific.. Notice the title says "all genres" pertaining to metal....One has to be open minded when trying to discover new things right? However if you meant being specific as to a song/band/cd....whichever is fine, and thank you for the suggestion. I was looking into that earlier this week after reading the review.....

Check out the Now Playing 2.0 thread. You'll see some new bands you probably never heard of that you might want to check out.

And that's why it helps leaving a little comment and not just the artwork when posting there... Except for the obvious classics, of course.

Oh my god! Giggly schoolgirl moment? What would you change, bro? Annihilator? Kylesa (you could do heavier sludge)? The Death choice (very subjective, discerning the best)?

Hihihi. Yeah.

Pretty much what you said. I'd replace them with Kreator - Pleasure to Kill and for Death I'd go with Sound of Perseverance. For Sludge I'd pick a Neurosis and that's about it. Awesome call with Enabler there. :dio:

Basic conclusion is that Mitch should heed our advice. I never got into Kreator. Sound of Perseverance might be my least favorite Death album. It's the culmination of their trajectory, losing the intensity which Scream Bloody Gore had. And Neurosis and Kylesa are doing entirely two differnt things. I need to check out more Neurosis. And Enabler is fucking awesome. They did a split with Ambassador Gun but it's only on cassette and hence not downloadable. Both bands are fucking awesome on it though. Enabler seems to be losing their song-writing momentum but they do what they do so fucking well that you can't complain.

NO ONE IS COMING BACK FROM THE DEAD.
NO ONE IS COMING BACK FROM THE DEAD.
mosh.

agreed. About Kylesa, never heard much of their stuff and I need to check them out further, but when I think sludge I think Neurosis. That's why I'd pick them.

I must whore myself out and promote Vision Divine and Labyrinth. Return to Heaven Denied and Stream of Consciousness are good places to start respectively. I can't say enough good things about every Rush album. If your intelligence (must be somewhat autistic to get the full effect, TBH, like myself) and studies of physics and metaphysics are deep enough Ayreon is a surefire winner..

I'm pretty convinced Olaf and Arjen are somewhat-autistic with sensory integration issues that gave them a much more acute sixth sense that Arjen alluded to on his first album. I think he's talking about himself and is using the blindness analogy to describe his perceptions. Then again, I think we all end up working together and they wrote those albums for me personally to awaken the chosen one  all these metal bands are certain is going to arrive, so who knows.

Hmmm... that list I kinda want to pick apart. Second that My Dying Bride though.

Why choose those two Cattle Decap albums over Harvest Floor? Dark Funeral really suck and I just can't get behind any of your black metal suggestions. Deathstars I can't take seriously after having entered high school. Suggesting iwrestledabearonce no matter how much I love them is just a bad idea.

imo erryone who likes metal should listen to these because they are the five best metal albums.

Zebulon Pike - The Deafening Twilight - instrumental prog/sludge/doom metal. Cerebral, intense, majestic, intricate, heavy. Like constellations, or fractals, or planets colliding.

Reverend Bizarre - III: So Long Suckers - doom metal. I think it has the only half hour long song I'd describe as "fun". It's also got Sorrow and Anywhere Out of This World, which win the "emotions in metal" contest.

Protest the Hero - Scurrilous - idk. It's got riffs, it's wacky, it's catchy, it's complicated. A whole lot of fun from beginning to end and gets the skin tingles going more than a few times as well.

Hammers of Misfortune - The August Engine - prog metal. They do the best combination of metal with 70s prog and classical music that I've heard. It avoids "prog metal" cliches. Elegant and Fun, rather than goofy and obnoxious. (Actually Zebulon Pike do the metal/classical/prog combo real good too, but the two bands are influenced by very different types of classical music. ZP is Stravinsky whereas Hammers is Beethoven. Whatever.)

Lord Weird Slough Feg - Traveller - heavy metal. Everyone seems to like this. It's about the riffs and vocals I think. Catchy, classy. Endlessly fun.

I just love Cattle decap to death, there on my top 5, no doubt the harvest floor was a good album but i feel he should try to listen to their older stuff first. i like deathstars allot i know they can seem a little silly at times but they have some really catchy songs. I said IWABO because most metalheads over look this band and don't see how well done it is for a scene kid band. They really stick out. Dark funeral i can see why you say that but that album is killer in my opinion.
