there's a lot of psychedelic influence on Frost and Fire, pretty trippy. but still based around hard rock etc. it's not exactly great all the way through, but pretty fascinating all the same..

Is this album more hard rock than heavy metal?

And does this sound a bit like Manilla Road?Or what is the band that sounds closer to this album?

I've only heard modern Manilla Road so I can't really make a comparison.

Frost and Fire has like early Judas Priest heaviness with Deep Purple mixed in, or at least that's what comes to mind. it still greatly depends on whether you like the vocals.

One Foot in Hell and King of the Dead most resemble Manilla Road, but only a little bit. Manilla Road is definately more epic. You wont hear "Lost in Necropolis" on any of the CU albums.

Weeeell, the only similarities between Frost and Fire and Manilla Road, can be found on the earlier Manilla releases (like the dreams of eschaton demo), but that's not important since I'm sure none of the two bands ever heard of each other, at least at the time! That being said, Frost and Fire has more 70's rock elements, so start off with King of the Dead, keeping in mind of course that Cirith Ungol, despite their colossal musical value, are a pretty "aquired taste" band, which means they're not very easy to get into. They may seem odd at first, but once you enter their trip, you're hooked!

OOOOH NADSOKOOOR!!!

The music is really good, but the vocals sound like Geddy Lee trying to do a Rob Halford impersonation

I think Jerry FOgle's guitar playing is the highlight of this band, but next are Tim Baker's vocals. They are completely original such that you either hate him or love him. If people hate his vocals, that's fine with me. More Ungol for me!
