how someone likes metal but doesn't like Sons of Northern Darkness is mind boggling, that album is so fucking good.

Cause IMO pure Black Metal in my mind is quite removed from the rest of Metal soundwise.

I heard it a long time ago and never ever understood it. It doesn't seem to fit into Metal. And for a long time it existed on the very fringe of metal. It only became popular in the last 10 or so years.

The thing about that particular Immortal album, however, is just how influenced it is by traditional heavy or thrash metal. Sons of Northern Darkness, disregarding one or two faster tracks, is crunchy, very heavy, mid-paced metal with black metal vocals. That album, sonically, is probably further away from Emperor's Nightside Eclipse than Master of Puppets. Listen to the track "Tyrants" and tell me it is more black metal than heavy metal.

Well having listened to a few songs off it, I'd totally agree. Thanks for the suggestion - it sounds pretty cool.

But then didn't Black Metal start coming back into the Metal fold around this time? After all Darkthrone and Satyricon went more mainstream metal during this time while you had bands like Zyklon and Behemoth bridging the gap between DM and BM.

A lot of the older Norwegian bands changed styles, broke up, or made stuff like Zyklon, yes. Sons of Northern Darkness fits into that same pattern. If you want to make the argument that early-mid 90s Norwegian Black Metal is on an island separated from the rest of metal, I'll not argue against it.

I resent that statement.

Why?
Because Katy Perry is better than Bob Marley. Bob Marley could never be the soundtrack to my sippin' gin and juice while laying underneath the palm trees or freaking in a jeep.

Yes.
Do you think I'd call you an idiot if I hadn't heard Katy's "art"?

I don't see what I said that be construed as idiotic given the fact that you have heard songs which are a thousand times better than Marley's business.

I just can't understand how one with taste for good music could seriously write that....

I guess my Katy Perry was Kylie Minogue... Her 1997 album (Impossible Princess, crafted with James Dean Bradfield, Dave Ball and a few others...) was quite juicy.
Still, this kind of radio pop usually ages pretty badly. You'll see in 5 to 10 years.

I feel so miserable when I hear Katy Perry's teenage dream song come on at the place I work. I work at a place that retarded people who can't work normal jobs work at and they just do easy things like count things and simple jobs like that.

It's fucking terrifying hearing pop music in that place because the place is so depressing.

Got one! Sonic Youth. I like a few albums and songs in certain moods, but fuck me they get boring very quickly.
