Listened today. Pretty good, up until the worst children's choir I've ever heard. I'll save the Rush cover for after work, that should be... interesting.

Yeah, the two bonus tracks sound more like demos.

And I think the "choir" is their kids or something.

daddy issues lyrics.
One of the more annoying aspects of their music.

I won't deny that but can someone tell me where those daddy issues lyrics are on The Blackening?

They have like two songs where Rob writes about his childhood. So that of course makes them a band who does it all the time. Kind of like how The Burning Red is a rapcore album, even though only two songs even remotely resemble that kind of music. And even then the term "rapcore" is really pushing it.

Of course, the people that complain about "daddy issues" lyrics like power metal and black metal and other styles where bands nine times out of ten have some of the lamest, most laughable, insipid lyrics ever written.

But I guess dragon and demon issues are better than daddy issues.

Lulz, I was offended by the ridiculous things you were saying, then realised you were Eyesore

Quote:
Thou have fathered
Son and daughter
Doth begat, yet raised not bother
Paralyzed your children's lives
Wither vines of family ties

Self-destruction
Make him function
Crayons and clay
Days turn blue to gray
Days turn blue to gray

Seventeen when
Family begin
Drinking, fighting, heroin
Unquenchable addictions call
Responsible to none above all

Self-destruction
Make him function
Crayons and clay
Days turn blue to gray
Days turn blue to gray

Lest I taste
Its sweet grapes
Glass to tongue
Across it tips
Cross my lips
Swallow his soul

Please Won't you love me?
Please help me see
What did I do?
Did I hurt you?
And now that you're gone
Emptiness lives on
The guilt is all I feel No closure

Father Motherfucker No closure

The strings of my heart
You pulled on endlessly
This twine is severed
In tragedy

Father Mother Destroyer Destroy her

[Solo: Demmel]

Your self-destruction
What made you feel alive
Your self-detruction
Of your children's Lives

I'd listen to the worst pm or bm lyrics anyday over this dribble :P

Only because your daddy diddled your balloon knot as a child and you can't handle lyrics that "real."

Or that shit. Rob Flynn is like 50 years old now right? You thought he would have gotten over it, or joined a support group with the guy from Mudvayne.

Ever think he's not talking about himself?

It is funny, though, because I've heard comments like this countless times in the past. Whenever a musician writes something deemed emotionally whiny by certain people, they always act like it's so easy to get over something.

Yet they—and in this case, you—can't get over the very simple fact that some people write about childhood abuse or personal issues. You can't get over that and you question why someone might have trouble getting past the fact that his father molested him or whatever? Makes sense.

And of course, why don't they just go to therapy, join a support group? Because music isn't therapy. Art isn't a way lay ones emotions bare, work through difficult things, question life. Nah, fuck that. Go to a shrink.

If he's not singing about himself then he is singing about a serious issue that he has no idea about, and is thus a massive fraud.

It's his wife's father, no? Bit much to condemn him over it. Certainly better lyrics than Varg "OOOOH A THOUSAND WOMEN ALONE AND I SATISFIED THEM ALL BY MYSELF AAAARGH A THOUSAND MEN I STABBED THEM ALL WITH MY SPEAR" Vikernes.

Tbh rarely pay attention to bm lyrics. That's if I can even understand them.

I also condemn MH for having boring music and for being fakes and posers, if that helps :)

What?

SO, anyway, the new album is really good you guys. Probably the most metal thing they have done. Great solos and shit. Give it a shot.

Sigh...

How are they "fakes and posers"?

Listening to The Locust and it sounds kinda rehashed from something else they did.

It doesn't really sound like any album they've done before. In fact, I'd say all their albums have their own distinct sound.

New album fucking rules. Heavy, catchy, complex. It does everything right. After a few listens, possibly better than The Blackening.

I totally understand if Machine Head just doesn't click with you, but anyone who still hates them after these last 2 albums is holding a very, very serious nu-metal grudge. It was a decade ago, get over it!
