I sense 15 pages of back and forth banter on how bad Opeth has changed and how good they changed.

Let the games begin.

Opeth changed to something "good"?

Holy fuck.

Fans should never review albums of their idols.
That said, it's a good retro-prog album, too bad for Orne's Tree of Life which is better than Heritage and will get less coverage because of Opeth's move to go all prog.
I'd give Heritage a 80/100 but I still need to dive in it more to see where it leads...

My least favorite Opeth album. I like Damnation, I don't really need the growls but I do need the songs to be good and these, with a few exceptions, aren't.

Heritage is excellent but 95 seems a bit high imo. Also I would agree that Damnation is the better album of the two.

Agreed, thought the first half was good, second half was bad. 95 was hilarious, but Goat gave it a 92 as well.

I could be rude, so I will. This album is boring most of the time. No death vocals is fine. I don't care about that. I also don't care that it's over all pretty mellow. Unfortunately, there are, and have been, many technical, lengthy, subdued, and progressive rock bands out there. Opeth has just thrown themselves into that heap. Is it good? Well, sure it is. In a 70's progressive psychedelia way or something. It's artsy. I could listen to this while cleaning the house or while boning some snobby upper class vegetarian hippie chick or something. Good for a glass of wine, which is fine. What did he do like spend the summer with Anathema's girlfriend doing acid on the beach listening to Yes records? I'm in a very heavy mood lately so if I do come back to this later maybe I will like it more. Right now, I'm very angry at the world, so I just don't see myself spending much time with this.

Orchid was good an album I can listen too without nodding off too heavily.

This makes me mildly frantic that I still haven't received my special-edition album from the end records. I don't want to listen to it on youtube, either, so I guess I have to wait however long it may take which I am hoping won't be too long. NP: Sunn O))) - Monoliths And Dimensions. Terrific album.
