It doesn't sound like shit, but it's not perfect. Of course, every Iced Earth album since Something Wicked, and even the last Demons & Wizards album, sounds kinda weak. John Schaeffer and Jim Morris don't know how use Pro Tools to give music some balls.
That said, this new recording is free, so it's all good. That's a drum machine, too. Bummed the chanting wasn't redone here.
As much as I like this new version, gotta agree with you. Production may be more refined than the original, but the original had a more aggressive sound to it. Miss the chants too.
Stu is no Barlow, but he definitely fits this band. That being said, wouldn't matter if Barlow was on this coming album, Jon's song writing has been bland since TGB. I like the Something Wicked story well enough, but there were no real killer tracks on either album. I don't want him to use the fact that they're concept albums as an excuse... plenty of concept albums have killer tracks (Nightfall in Middle Earth and Jon's own Night of the Stormrider just to name two). If Jon continues the current trend, Dystopia is screwed. Like I said before, the Dante's Inferno re-release gives reason for hope. Wouldnt mind listening to an album reminiscent of Burnt Offerings.
