It's pretty common for both metal fans on message boards and artists in interviews to list some bands they like that are totally not metal. Many of us listen to classical music, I've heard Depeche Mode come up in interviews with Arsis and In Flames. Most of us also have an appreciation for classic rock and some of us (myself) like rap.

Yet, the only 2 non-metal musician I've heard of listening to metal is Vinnie Paz from Jedi Mind Tricks and Ice T. When Vinnie was asked who he would like to tour with, he said Slayer and Cannical Corpse. And of course Ice T has collaborated with Six Feet Under, started Body Count (not good, but closer to metal than anything else he had done) and appeared several times in CC's "Centuries of Torment".

Say what you will about rap, but it is also tends to be an aggressive, male-dominated form of music. So my main question is, does anyone like metal besides metalheads? More specifically, does anyone who primarily listens to non-aggressive music like it? Could you name a modern classical composer or a jazz artist who's in to metal of any sort?

Zorn's the obvious answer. I think there's a significant area of overlap, but it's hard to find out in many cases since these sort of people rarely get interviewed by metalheads, and who but metalheads would ask a question like that?

Thought of a couple more : Ryan Adams, alt-singer-songwriter & husband to Mandy Moore, is a metalhead. Thurston Moore out of Sonic Youth is totally kvlt, loves his blek metle.

I don't listen to enough Zorn. Should substitute some of my evening Jazzery for some of his stuff soon.

Michael Savage listens to Metallica and upper tier acts like that, and I'm sure Nicholas Cage knows of black metal since his son is in a black metal band.

I heard somewhere that Jim Carrey's son is a vocalist in a Death Metal band, but I'm not 100% sure.

Jim Carrey himself, is an obvious pick. Isn't the Russian PM Medvedev a big metal fan, too? Saw something about him meeting Deep Purple...

He also had Stratovarius shipped over for a private concert.
