I'm trying to expand my collection in the genres mentioned in the title. Recommendations would be much appreciated. Cheers.

Virulent Blessing, Yogoth Sothoth, Crimson Massacre, Cosmic Atrophy, Timeghoul, Hedon Cries, Phlebotomized, Garden of Shadows, Mitochondrion, Infester, and of course Early Septic flesh all of these are atmospheric death metal bands.

Garden of Shadows: Excellent stuff. Although the keyboards seem sort out of place and could have been more deeper in the production and could have more subtle.

Mitochondrion: Heavy, Other-worldly, a sense of atmosphere is definitely there! Not sure if I like or not.

Crimson Massacre: Musicianship is there although very dysfunctional and absolutely no sense of melody that connects the technicality.

Cosmic Atrophy: I can imagine someone else definitely liking them but it really isn't my thing.

And of course Septic Flesh I am very familiar with.

Thank you, Steve :).

Will check out Deadsea.

Excellent choice, and big kudos to recommending this obscure gem of an album. Such a shame they released just one; that album was the first thing that came to my mind when you asked.

Sweet! It really is quite a shame that that was the last album they released. I'm very glad Steve recommended them to me. The buyer I bought from at amazon has a 97% rating. Some have complained about their slow shipping while a lot of others have been very happy about them. Hopefully I'll be in the happy category.

If you haven't already heard Ulcerate then I suggest Everything is Fire to you.

I have heard of them, Thank you. I listened to them a while ago and didn't find them very interesting to say the least although a lot of people here will disagree with me. Thank you, Anyhow.

To each his own. Also I'm really digging Garden of Shadows, it's really good.

Indeed. Giving Ulcerate another chance. Everything is Fire is a beast of an album. I don't know where my mind was the last time I was listening to Ulcerate but listening to them once again made me like them a lot. As you have said their sound is a combination of Immolation with Deathspell Omega combined; Something quite captivating. I'm sure they're a band that needs repetitive plays to be able to understand their sound better. Although the atmosphere they create is instantly mind-altering.

Ulcerate is just fucking heavy. Their newest album is solid as well. What I go for when it comes to this kind of dm is the aforementioned Ulcerate and Portal, which people either love or hate and by love I mean feel an unnerving, ominous, oppressive sound that decenters subjectivity in how it overwhelms the senses leaving you exhilarated yet nauseous.

Necrophagist is another band I haven't heard in a while. Great band.

Yeah, somehow I don't think they will ever release their new album though.

I was just going through the forum for their new album and Muhammad answering the fan's questions-- there is no sign of a due date for the new album as far as I have seen. Hopefully there will be a new album by the end this year or in the early days of 2012. I am not very optimistic, though.

Obscura is another band with great structure, melody, harmony and technicality.

New album must have songs that take months to record because they're so technical.

To be honest, one album of six string sweeping and going up and down scales at ridiculous speeds is enough for me.

There is such as thing as too technical, especially when it hampers songwriting and makes everything start to blur.
Which is why the original tech death bands are always superior to their modern peers.
